Primark Interview 2017

It won't lower your chances, because everyone has to start somewhere. My friend works there, she said they asked why they want to work there, how many hours they can do, and how they are with customers. Good luck!

I have an interview at Primark next week and am wondering what sort of questions they will ask.
Also what should I wear to the interview.
I havnt had experience in retail before so will this lower my chances?

I had an interview in february and got the job, they gave three situations with customers and asked how you would deal with it. The order of importance of certain tasks and the qualities you have that would make you suited to the role.

Best thing is to be very smiley and friendly in the interview, shows you will be good with customers.

I used to work in primark in 2015, primark is great for giving people who have no prior experience that first step. Obviously I can't remember all the questions (but there weren't many) but some of the questions i remember were

'why do you want to work for primark?'
(think I said something along the lines of that I am a fan of the company and enjoy helping people??)

'Who are primarks competitors'
New Look,H&M as theyre both high street retailers with a similar demographic

and for the interview I wore a plain black long sleeved t shirt, black pencil skirt, black tights and flat black shoes (really not that fancy, but I was fine)

Thank you! Any tips on how to show you are confident during an interview, as I really struggle with this, plus I really struggle with thinking quickly when they ask questions, and sometimes freeze and get shy and just smile and look stupid, is this normal?

Honestly, I am/was the exact same, luckily I did a lot of research before hand about possible questions (have a look on glassdoor.com) so I luckily had a pre planned answer for every question they threw at me. Primark is honestly one of the easiest interviews you will ever have, they are also used to interviewing/hiring young people who have no work/interview experience so they won't be expecting anything amazing off you, just make sure to smile and make eye contact and you should be fine, i'm a shy person and I worked with some people there who were evn more introverted than me, and they somehow passed the interview, as long as they can see that you're a nice, respectful person you should be fine!

I finally got a primark interview?

How should I revise, I lack confidence, any tips and what questions should I revise?

Plus,

I only have a passport, NI number,birth certificate and a CV. Is that enough?

Congratulations and I hope your interview goes well. Usually places ask for two types of ID so your passport and birth certificate will be perfect. What you should do now is read about the history of the company from past to present and how they operate as they may ask what you know about Primark.

I used to be a supervisor there so I know there’s a huge drive to push for excellent customer service. It used to be “pile everything on the shelf” sort of retailer whereas they’ve vastly improved their quality of products in the last few years and they’re more focused on customer service now than ever before.

It’s important to be well-groomed. Wear smart casual because that’s what you will be wearing if get the job. A shirt, dark navy or black jeans and boots or you can go old school and play it safe with the suit. Primark are looking for people who are polite, smiley-happy and always ready to help customers. Be confident but don’t pretend too much or it will look fake and that’s the last thing you want. Your interview will be a 1-1 with a member of the people and culture team (HR).

They will most likely give you a few scenarios and ask how you would deal with them to grasp a better idea of how you think and prioritise things. My advice to you there is to use the STAR system (Situation, Task, Action, Result) as it’s a great way to structure your answer in your head so when it comes out of your mouth is sounds sensical.

Things you will be doing if you get the job may include serving customers at the till, handling cash, answering customer queries, going to the stock room to get stock and bring it back to put it out, tidying up to maintain high standards, visual merchandising, stock movements, counting items of stock to make sure it’s accurate on the system.

I only have black cropped smart trousers and a white top which is V neck and a stripey black and white blazer, oh and some pointy black flats (as i'm female) will that work? Plus, will they check my CV?

Yes of course it will that’s sounds perfect. I’m not sure how it is in the other stores but in mine people who had an interview were told to go to the customer service desk and then were escorted to our canteen upstairs where they would wait for the interviewer from our HR team. 9/10 the staff member escorting you will make you feel at ease and make small talk with you so you shouldn’t feel too nervous in that regard.

As you have an interview they will have already checked your CV but I have known them to reference it in the questions a couple of times. My advice there is to read your CV a few times over so you remember everything you’ve wrote in case they try to catch you out.

Some other things I can remember about Primark is their new and improved training called “Customer Promise”. Basically it takes you through how they would like you to deal with customers so for example you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times so they have something called the 6ft rule where you need to be aware of any customers in that radius that may need help. A main part of the promise is that Primark employees ensure the “customer journey” is perfect. It sounds complicated but it’s exactly what it says on the tin, it’s just their journey around the store. Along the journey they’ll come across the “4 touch points” which if I remember correctly are the shop floor, fitting rooms, customer services and the tills. Basically they need to be manned and ready for action at all times, clean, tidy and free of clutter. If you can factor in any of that into your answers they should be very impressed because it’s stuff employees should know but can’t be bothered to remember. Plus they’ll probably wonder how you know more than the staff haha.

I was just wondering... I don't remember exactly the contract hours I applied for this is due to me applying over 2 months ago and I tried going back to check, but no luck. I think I applied for the 8 hour over the weekend contract, but my question is do Primark employees actually work 8 hours per week I don't want to get the contract type wrong and make a fool out myself if you know what I mean, like is that contact even possible? Would I be able to work over the weekend for about 8 hours: (4 hours on a Saturday and a additional 4 hours on a Sunday). Hope my question hasn't confused you

Plus, my interview is tomorrow at the wood green north london store ! I'm so nervous

You’re welcome.

Is it not in your previous emails? It’s ok if it isn’t because a lot of people forget and they won’t be bothered that you have forgotten the hours you applied for because sometimes they offer you different ones as well as the ones you applied for. It depends what they have available that needs filling. They will most likely say something like “so you have applied for *insert shift here*” when you sit down anyway.

Usually 8 hours will be 4 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday. Sometimes the shifts will differ over the two days but they will be your contracted hours if you get the job so it’s not like your supervisor or manager will come up to you and say I don’t want you in at 1pm tomorrow I want you in at 6am, no, they can’t do that. Primark are good like that. They’ll most likely give you a 12-4 on Saturday and a 2-6 on Sunday so they’ve covered the peak trade on Saturday and you’ll be on the close shift Sunday. Store usually closes at 5 but you have an hour to tidy up and do returns. I’m only speculating there though you could have completely different hours catered specifically for that store.

Hey, yeah I applied a very long time ago, my store closes at 7pm? I want to work from 9-1 but have no idea if they'd allow me because it depends what the company needs right, in that case should I just say:

"it depends on what the company needs, as long as I work 8 hours over the weekend, I'm good" and see what she says or?

Sorry I meant the stores usually close at 5 on a Sunday only. To be honest I would wait for them to tell you what hours they have for you before you mention it.
