Oxford English Applicants 2018

Name: Immy (hey!)

Location: Essex - literally 10 minutes from where TOWIE is filmed... joy... :h:

College (and why?): Oriel, if i'm lucky! It's beautiful and has the best Classics department in the whole university, while being a really friendly place which has loads of lovely people. Also love that it's near to Exeter, where my best mate studies, and is really close to the Bodleian. I want to joint honours English & Classics by the way!

GCSE Results: 9A*s, 2As and 1B

AS Results: English Literature (A), History (A), Latin (A) and EPQ (a predicted A*)

A2 Subjects: English Lit, History and Latin

Predicted Grades: A*A*A*

Where else are you applying: Exeter, St. Andrew's, Edinburgh & Nottingham

I hope I get in but, if I don't, I get to do an awesome degree at Exeter with a year abroad wherever I like and I already have an offer from them. Although I really really want to go, Oxford isn't the be all-end all of life. I did the ELAT and the CAT today. I hope I didn't fail. None of you need to worry - by the looks of the thread, you're all insanely talented, smart and passionate.
Good luck to everyone and maybe i'll see you in September hahaha
Name: Oli
Location: Brighton
College (and why?): Brasenose - love the tutors, grounds, location, JCR
GCSE Results: 8A*'s and 3A's 1D (AD Maths - don't ask)
AS Results: A in Politics and B in Maths (dropped now)
A2 Subjects: English Lit, Politics and History
Achieved Grades: A*A*A
Where else are you applying: Durham, UCL, Nottingham (already have an unconditional!) and Manchester.

I found the ELat went pretty well but apparently I am the only person applying from my college that felt that it went well so idk if I have just become delusional.
Hey!
How did ELAT go and what are you feeling about the interviews?

It is just being so nervous and anticipating for me.
Interviews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll probably find out at the end of November.
seems so

Location: South London, but grew up in Norwich

College (and why?): Lady Margaret Hall I hope, it has a gender balance, the English tutors all seemed inspiring. 24 hour library and accommodation for all three years and it is a 10 minute walk from town, which for me is perfect; waking up 10 minutes earlier for a beautiful walk to the English Faculty through the university park and by the river.

GCSE Results: not brilliant, I was too young and immature to take them as seriously as I should've and so I coasted! 3 A*'s 4A's and 3B's

AS Results: I have already finished my A2, have taken a year out to work and study some stuff I am passionate about on my own terms!

A2 Subjects: English, Law and Triple Theatre

Achieved Grades: A*A*A*A(A) (last A is an AS only, that I dropped after year 12)

Where else are you applying: UCL, Exeter, Warwick and KCL. Unconditional offers from Exeter and Warwick so far - which is great but not quite the dream.

Good luck!

College (and why?): Brasenose! After a long day of touring a load of colleges I went in there and fell in love. The porters and admissions staff went out of their way (quite literally) to show me around and give me loads of tips for applications and about the English program. Also they have an incredible art's community (arts week!) which is something i'm super involved in at my school.

Results: Obviously it's a slightly different system but i'm sitting at a 95% average

Where else are you applying: Leeds, KCL, UCL, and Durham (I have offers from Leeds and KCL)

I thought the ELAT went quite well. From discussion in the ELAT thread it seems I had different texts from the test UK students did (same theme of food though :/) luckily for me the supposedly "unfamiliar texts" included Ulysses, Moby-****, and Margaret Atwood's The Edible Women (all of which I'd already read lol)

Good luck to everyone! Fingers crossed for interviews:crossedf:

Name: Ankur

Location: India (huh! international)

College (and why?): Christ Church. Because Harry Potter is filmed here- just kidding. I like its architecture and its association with past and its list of world renowned alumni.

GCSE Results (i.e. AISSCE in India): A1, A1, A1, A1, A1- i.e. highest anyone can score here.

A2 Subjects (i.e AISSE in India): English, History, Geograpy, Politics and Hindi

Predicted Grades: 95+ in each of the modules. (out of 100)

Where else are you applying: St. Andrews, Glasgow, Queen's Belfast and Westminster. Conditional offers from Glasgow and Westminster so far. But love is something this.

ELAT went well. But don't have any idea. Looking forward to see an interview invitation in my inbox.

Good luck to all!!

College (and why?): WADHAM - I literally just fell in love with it when I went there. It's beautiful, the pastoral care seemed really supportive (they have a puppy!), I loved how progressive it was - they literally hold a festival called Queerfest, they have a THEATRE (something that really matters to me as I really hate the lack of drama on the actual course), it was so friendly and lovely. Also, I'm really interested in one of the tutor's specialism - so I really want to be taught by her.
GCSE Results: 8A*s and 3As
A2 Subjects: English Lit, History and Drama & Theatre Studies
Predicted Grades: A*A*A*
Where else are you applying: Nottingham (unconditional), Birmingham (unconditional), St. Andrews (nothing yet) and Kent (unconditional)

I'm so late on this but I thought I should join this thread as I received an interview from Wadham today!! Has anyone else had an interview offer?

You deserve it! Congratulations! Be so dang proud of yourself. Ahaha I know the feeling. I’ve been trying to read new stuff, but now I’m back to my personal statement texts and the texts in my written work and I’ve literally designated the rest of the week as hardcore reading time.

Yeah, I'm literally going to spend all of next week reading. I need to make sure I've got some books prepared that aren't on my statement that I can link back as further reading in case they ask. My interviews are a bit odd as both of them are unseen text analysis, so I'm not sure how much I'll be asked about my statement/written work. Good luck!!!
hi guys!!!

How are you guys preparing for interview?

I’m rereading all the books I discussed in my personal statement and doing some practise interviews but I feel like I should do more- I’m just not sure exactly what!
