I'm a Year 9 stressing over GCSE options..

I have to give in my GCSE options form for December 8th and I still haven't decided what subjects I want to take. I know that I'm still quite young but I've always enjoyed biology and have taken a great interest in studying in Neurology which is why I would like to pursue medicine for university.

Here are my options (excluding my core subjects) that I would like to take. I do have more than four because I'm unsure of what I should take.

Spanish - (would be my second language and I usually get around 85%-100%)

Additional Maths - (I like maths and I usually achieve around 85%-100% as well)

Religious Studies - (Really enjoy it but don't like the essays. I only considered taking it so that I would have a variety of subjects including a humanities, usually get around 70%-90%)

Triple Science - (This counts as one of my options and I actually refuse to take dual award. As nerdy as it sounds I genuinely love science. Physics- 75%-100% Chemistry 85%-100% and Biology - 90%-100%)

ICT - (Quite fun and nothing too challenging, I think. Wasn't too good at it about 2 years ago with spreadsheets but I've improved now and get around 85%)

Art (Would only take it for the photography part because I like photography, but I could do that as a hobby as well. In actual art I get around 75%-90%)

What do you think I should take? And which subjects are the easiest to get a high mark in? And just give me extra info cause im a smol bean who is actually stressed out

Triple Science, Spanish, RE and ICT I'd say. Would keep most options open. Whatever you go with, triple science is essential else you'll be doing a lot of catching up in A-Levels.

Triple Science
Add maths as it will give you a great boost in AS if you choose it - only pick it if you actually like maths and are good at it.

Spanish
ICT

Don't do Art.

Do not take Art. Too much work and sometimes just impossible to get a good grade. ICT should be easy. Triple science is a must. Ad maths is something worth trying, and you can drop if too much. Spanish is good but also quite difficult (2nd languages are a lot of work compared to other subjects). RS is an easy grade, and probably more enjoyable than ICT.

No subject is 'easiest to get high marks in' because every subject requires the hard work etc. Nonetheless, your options seem good as it has a variety! However from friends, i've heard art takes up alot of time so unless you really enjoy the subject and willing to sacrifice some time then i dont see the problem ith taking art! However if your just taking it for the photography side of it you might want to reconsider your options :smile:

I want to do medicine in the future too! However i want to specialise in cardiology! Why do you want to pursue medicine?! :biggrin:

If you're planning to do mathematics (or even further maths) at A-level, you won't regret doing Additional Maths.

I would say as you're going for medicine to definitely take triple and one 'easier' subject just to take a bit of pressure off. I'd go for ICT as you can keep photography as a hobby (I do too) and you are good at it, enjoy it and it will be useful for neurology.

I'd also say Spanish would be helpful as universities and employers really like when someone has qualifications in languages and you're good at it so it opens a lot of opportunities.

It depends how much you like maths as to whether or not you take additional maths as you'll get quite a large number of lessons so you might get bored of it. I was forced to take RS in yr 8-9 because I'm good at it but I hated it at the time but its very different at GCSE and I really got into medical ethics and I now want a degree in it. It seems like you might enjoy that too if you're into neurology? Check what topics you cover at your school.

I would take triple, ICT, Spanish and then choose between additional maths and RS. Sorry if I've written loads, I'm more than happy to help with anything you need!

No problem, as I say the fact that you care so much about your options and you obviously enjoy them all and are very talented at them shows that you'll enjoy and do well in whatever you pick. If you need any more advice just message me xx
