'The University of Cambridge lost 184 EU staff in the past year, a 35 per cent increase on the 2014-15 period.'

Is this a net loss?

Alternatively, if this is just 184 staff putting in their notice how many joined?

Were these cleaning staff or academics?

The article doesn't contain this information, but without it, this is just a random number.

True, they don't give a lot of information. Could be 90% cleaning and 10% academics.

As if Britain cannot produce clever enough people.
Looks like the students will have to clear out their own sick from the waste paper bin now that all their Polish bedders have gone home.

I knew Brexit was bad, but not THAT bad. :frown:

Success isn't born from intelligence per se. It is born from influence. Almost any successful person will talk about the people who influenced them. The reason the UK is as innovative as it is, is because thankfully those who wish to innovate are outward looking and embrace the new ideas and ways of thinking that come to us from all over the world. As immigration dwindles so too will innovation. You may well say that people with skills will still come here but we are hardly advertising ourselves as awelcoming place to come.
So what? This allows overlooked British applicants to have a chance.

Yet another attempt to get rid of the British and Britain.
yep that pesky Wittgenstein would never have been allowed to take a proper British philosopher's job.

A dirty scruffy university is nearly as big a problem as a university without academics.

The trend is going to intensify as we approach the moronic Brexit with the morons currently in charge of the Tory Party rendering it increasingly chaotic. Confidence from EU people living and working here is going to ebb away faster and faster and the EU economy is now forging ahead compared to the UK. So there is every chance that there is going to be a massive brain drain away to Europe from our world-leading research sector.

And to think that all this and more is down to a mythical representation of certain aspects of the European court that certain blowhard Tories pretend to have accepted in order to further the interests of hedge funds that they covertly represent.

How so? Britain is England, Scotland , Wales and N Ireland amongst others. And we are Anglo Saxon e.g. Germans. But the Norman invasion bought French influence, the Romans bought Italian influence. During the Empire we bought back products and ways of thinking from around the world. We are a product of outward thinking.

What is British otherwise? Because it certainly isn't being afraid and frearful of people who are different to us. Or is it?

It's old news from a Guardian piece earlier this year:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/03/brexit-universities-academics-eu-rights

And it's academics, but doesn't account for new joiners from the EU.

We are less than 5% Anglo-Saxon. The Normans consisted of no more than a replacement of the aristocracy. The Romans consisted of 10000 soldiers. We are still largely British.

And what does that mean to you?

When I look at myself and my friends, we all have ancestry from outside Britain despite being born and bred. What is British?

You Remainers are the Internationalists, the believers in the disappearance of, or at least dimunition of the nation state.

A federal Europe. no national sovereignty. what does it matter where someone is born, the country in which the research takes place?

If our country loses the services of some academics, so what? They will research in the EU whose claims to funding are anyway more legitimate than the UK’s right? You support the billions we are going to give them don’t you?

Time to lose your little Englander prejudices. We are all human beings. Research at a Grand Ecole or in Germany still benefits mankind.

What is so special about Cambridge? It happens to be on a piece of the earth called England, but of what consequence is that?

We are Europeans, not British surely? You are in terrible danger of being thought of as racist.

We are descended from the neolithic hunter gatherers who came to Britain at the end of the last ice age. True of most people who have a nineteenth century British ancestor. The multiculti invasion is only about 2 or 3 generations deep. The British are 300 generations deep.

So you are suggesting that the multiple invasions from the likes of the Romans, Normans, Gallics, Scandinavia (Vikings) and more recently - people from outside the UK have had no impact? I take it you stay true by your roots and still hunt and gather?

I am British but have a German surname. I have no idea how long that goes back but certainly more than 100 years. My wife is a quarter Italian. We are as British as the next person. So how do we score on your scale?

None of the groups you mention changed the genetic pool by more than about 5% each. The British are 30th cousins at most to each other.

Are you back with a new disposable account. My earlier reply still stands.

Cultural artefacts are not evidence of racial origins. (e.g. Samsung, Sony, Hitachi )

So you believe what Bede has to say?

Why are there no battlefield sites of Anglo-Saxon invasion in England?

Try this docu:

Well perhaps they just had too many members of staff from the EU!
