Best accommodation for Newcastle Uni

After realising that Ricky Road wont be available, what is the next best accommodation that is cheap (preferably under £120 per week), a good location (near the city centre), full of people (preferably at least 10 people in a hall) and a good atmosphere in general- I have looked at the Castle Leazes and read that its full of "Rahs", which is a bit ****. Any response appreciated

Hi,

I stayed in Marris House which is right next to where Richardson Road used to be. It is directly next door to the sports centre, less than five minutes to the medical school and around 10 minutes into main campus.

The accommodation itself is made up of blocks, and there are four flats in each block, within your flat you live with five other people, sharing two bathrooms. So there are typically 24 people in each block.

I loved Marris House because of how good the location is and also because it was so cheap. It costs £102.83 a week which is considerably cheaper than some of the other accommodations. The atmosphere was great and in my block the different flats would all meet up together in one flat to hang out.

You can see all of the accommodations online and do virtual tours of them here: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/accommodation/university/undergraduate/

Hope this helps,

Matt

Hello, I'll recommend The Foundry of UNINN student accommodation. Rooms from £99 ppw including all the bills. About 10-15 minutes' walk to Newcastle Uni and City Centre. Apart from the indoor facilities, students always play board games and hold parties in the large shared kitchens. The accommodation management team usually organises an event once two months as well! The atmosphere there is really good.

For more details, please check: http://www.uninnstudent.com/locations/the-foundry-newcastle-4.html Rooms from £99 ppw now including all the bills! May x

Hi scpfcib,

Castle Leazes is a popular choice as it is a very sociable site with its large chill out cafe and bar area however we have lots of different options and this isn't the only sociable accommodation site.

This comparison table provides an easy way to compare what's on offer by cost and includes useful information such as walking distance to campus and facilities on offer: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/media/wwwnclacuk/accommodation/files/accomm_overview.pdf

You could also check out this blog which offers some extra information https://microsites.ncl.ac.uk/oncours...accommodation/

If you'd like to come and visit and take a look at the accommodation before deciding you can book an accommodation tour here: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/accommodation/n...bookatalk/tour

Hope this helps 😊

Marris House isn't available for 2018 entry apparently. There is no mention of which accommodation is single sex and which is mixed. I believe Castle Leazes is single sex flats. Are any others? I don't want that! Wonder why they don't mention on the comparison pdf as assume some people specifically would want it.

Hi Jensa,
At Castle Leazes where rooms are centred on a corridor, while you will share floors with students of the same gender, the blocks are still mixed. So, it’s not entirely single sex as a whole.
I’ve forwarded your query to our accommodation team for a list of which ones offer single sex options and I’ll let you know what they advise. However where possible, we will try to allocate to mixed gender if this is your choice (though we cannot guarantee this). More info http://www.ncl.ac.uk/accommodation/living-with-us/how-to-choose/
Best wishes,
Susie

Hi again Jensa,
Our accommodation team have been back in touch to advise the accommodations offering single-sex options change every year, rather than being specific ones. So, it’s best to just indicate your preference either way as part of your application and although it’s not guaranteed, they will do their best to accommodate where possible.
Hope this helps 😊
