Adding h2so4 to Methyl...in Ice bath

Why do we need to keep the conical flask in an ice bath when adding H2so4 to methyl benzoate in purification processes

Is it to ensure the methyl benzoate is insoluble as much as possible and to allow impurities to dissolve as much as possible?
