Parking fine could i appeal

i parked my car identical to another near to the university im currently at and received a parking ticket but the other did not, can I appeal this?

Any thoughts ?

Were you allowed to park there?

It doesn't matter whether or not the other person got a ticket.

You can appeal. It won't work. 'I thought it was ok because everyone else was doing it' isn't a defence. Pay up.

Initially i thought i was allowed to park there as other car was a mate of mine who was already parked near to mine and didnt get a ticket.
So it seemed strange how he didnt get a one but i did

My mate had parked there initially so i parked near to him as he said it was okay to park there but then i got a ticket and he didnt even thought we had had our cars parked for the same amount of time and only one of us got a ticket
