Fast Stream Economics Assessment Centre

So I have the FS EAC coming up at the end of January, wondering if other people have it too and how they are feeling for it? Also thought it might be nice to have a separate page.

How did people do in the FSAC? What scores did people get? In terms of the EAC I think it seems quite nice in terms of having the research question/short answer, but the interview seems a little intimidating with the panel.

Hi, I passed my FSAC at the end of November. My first choice is Diplomatic Economics Service and second choice is the GES. I'm told I have to pass the EAC and then do another diplomatic interview. Kind of wishing I had put GES as first choice as I still don't know when my FSB is going to be. I'm guessing the FSB is the same structure as highlighted here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/2017-government-economic-fast-stream-scheme ?

Good luck for yours.

Ah awesome mine too! Might see you there. Oh awesome, that might be quite useful if you're planning on applying for international department. Yeah I get that, how's your research going for that?

Hi! Out of interest what specialist topic did you choose? I’m thinking of doing welfare economics, but I’m not sure if that’s too broad.

Also, I’m kinda worried about the test, because of uni exams I’m only gonna have like a week to study for it, and I feel like that’s not enough time?

Hi, I went for the economics of inequality and poverty so fairly similar to you, and I think that would be enough time, just try and revise basic economics if you can, that would be my best advise

Congratulations mate! I passed too. Not sure about the forms, but for departments I'm thinking treasury (of course), cabinet office, business and education. You?

Revise the basics, they just want you to show that you can use economic theory to go through problems, a lot of the questions are simple use of concepts. So when they say look at basic textbooks, it'll probably be sufficient.

In terms of the specialist topic, you guide the conversation, so whatever you talk about, they will ask about. If it gets stuck, they'll ask you more generally about the topic. You're not expected to know everything, but make sure you know the basic theory and its application to real life.
Anyone have any tips for the report? Given the short time we have to write it I'm not sure whether to focus more on the arguments given in the recommended reading (ie reducing social isolation etc), or if I should focus on the economic theory (positive externality, market failure etc)?
How many words are people roughly writing for the report? My draft is currently 1065, and the 'clear pass' example they have on their website is something similar. I'm glad I'm able to touch type as otherwise this would be very difficult to do straight from memory.

Edit - Also, does anyone else think the suggested 10 hours is a bit ludicrous when you factor in memorising/practicing a 1000 word report (that takes considerable time) and a 10 minute presentation? I'm on well over that already...

Mine's currently around 950. Where is this 'clear pass' example on their website?? Also, in all fairness the 10 hours is only meant to be an estimate for research I think

Ah okay, makes a bit more sense. Here is the example I was talking about, it's at the end.

Hey guys,
For anyone who has already done the EAC, does the technical report part of the EAC have the same structure as the written report at FSAC? Are you restricted to a template or can you just write?

Thanks in advance!

Also in terms of chosen topics, how do we check that our chosen topic is suitable?
