GCSE Straight Line Graphs

Make a table like this:

y | <----- all in the numbers for y using equation

Fill in the table using the equation y=5x-3

Where does it cross the x axis? If you put the numbers in the table into coordinates, then when does it look like this (0,_) with the 0 in the X axis?

Give the full coordinate of the point where the line y =5x−3 crosses the x-axis.

The line crosses the x-axis when y=0.

So solve 5x-3=0

good! So now you know that 0 for the y has to be between 0 and 1 for the x

so 5x-3=0
so divide by 5 to get x by itself.
x-(3/5)=0
so then plus 3/5 to 0 to get the x on one side
this means that the line crosses the x axis at (0.6,0) which is the same as (3/5, 0)
