Does maintenance loan depend on anything other than household income? If not, do child benefits add into this or not?
Does the maintenance loan depend on which tax year (if you start in Sept. 2018)

2016-2017
or
2017-2018?

If it is the '2017-2018' one, is it possible to have the maintenance loan based on the previous tax year instead?
If so, would your parents need to earn less than a certain %?

Apologies for the many questions ahaha
Hello
My dad doesn't have a set income as he is paid on an hourly/daily basis and the figures change. How will the household income be determined if we don't really have a set figure? What proof will we need to send?
Thank you

Hello. The maintenance loan is based on household income from a partner or parents. Non taxable benefits are not taking into account so things such as child benefit/ working tax credits are not included in this.

Thanks

Hello,

For the 2018/19 Academic Year we will ask parents to declare their income from the 2016/17 tax year.

However if parents household income has decreased by 15% or more since the 2016/17 tax year they are able to apply for a 'Current Year Income Assessment' where they would estimate their 2018/19 income details to us.

Thanks

Scott

Hello,

When we assess the application we look at the tax year 2 years prior to the start of your academic year. For example if your course starts in the Academic year 2018/19 we will use the tax year 2016/17.
If your dad thinks that his income will drop by 15% or more from the tax year used to the current tax year. He will be able to send us estimates of how much he is likely to make. For example if his income is going to be lower in the 2018/19 tax year than the 2016/17 he will be able to complete a Current Year Income. If you go to the GOV.website under Student Finance Forms you will be able to locate more information in regards to this.

Thanks

Hello,

When completing your application I would advise to have all course information available, there will be a personal details section, so you will need to know your National Insurance Number.

For new students we need to validate ID and also if applying for an income assessed based application we will need financial details.

Thanks

Scott

Hello,

When looking at income we only take into account taxable benefits. These include:

Bereavement Allowance (replaced Widow’s Pension from; 09/04/2001 although Widow's Pension is still paid to Widow’s whose entitlement arose before 09/04/01)

Bereavement Benefit

Care Allowance; (information is available from DWP Carers Allowance, Palatine House, Lancaster Road, Preston ,PR1 1HB,Phone number 0345 608 4321, www.direct.gov.uk/carers - email facility on website

Employment Support Allowance (contributory based only as income based is not taxable)

Income Support when paid to strikers or people involved in a trade dispute

Payments of Incapacity Benefit over 28 weeks

Pensions payable under the Industrial death Benefit Scheme

Jobseeker’s Allowance

Retirement Pension - includes state pension

Statutory Adoption Pay

Statutory Sick Pay

Statutory Maternity Pay

Statutory Paternity Pay

Widowed Parents Allowance

If your mum is in receipt of any of the above she will need to include this, if not then we do not require it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

If applying for an income assessed based application we will need financial details and also depending on the marital status of a parent we may need evidence of this.

Throughout the application there will be guidance material to assist with each section.

Does that mean She doesn’t declare her Child Tax Credits as it then suggests that my mum’s income is less than £7000 which doesn’t appear to be right as her income is £18000 with ESA and Child Tax Credits ?

On the list income support isn’t listed but you’ve mentioned that you take this into account on the application there isn’t an option to select this I

Hello,

Child Tax Credits are a non taxable benefit therefore do not need to be included in your mum's financial income details.

As for your mums ESA she will only need to declare this benefit if it is contribution based.

Thanks,

Scott
Is the income based on the amount before or after the tax is deducted and what does it mean by a valid passport. (Is it just one that hasn't expired?)
Thank you
