The Student Room Group

mature student getting finance

hi,

i am 27, will be 28 when i start university. I currently live with parents, but when at uni i will be privately renting with my partner outside of London. My partner will be working full time while I'm studying and I am hoping to get a part time role as he cant afford the rent and bills all by himself. I was wondering whose income do i need to base my maintenance loan form on?

I find this whole process extremely confusing and will need all the financial support i can get.

Another question i have is do i need to reapply for the maintenance and student loan each year?

I hope someone can help
Thanks
laura

I believe you will be classed as independent as you are over 25.
Check with SFE as I think the leaflet points to any of the criteria applying and not all.

Be warned when living with your partner he will be liable for council tax for your place as if you werent living there.

Application dates for finance are here:

Hi Laura,

The reason I asked this, is because it is a different type of support, available for postgraduate students.

As an undergraduate you will be assessed on the household income, that will be the income of your cohabiting partner.

To get an estimate of how much you are likely to receive you can use the Student Finance Calculator, here is a link,

Thanks Rona
