Insurance Quote - Accident/Claim?

Trying to get some quotes for new car insurance, it seems sort of impossible to fill out - I had a (very) minor scrape last year as an authorised driver on a company car, and I never made an insurance claim for it.

But on the forms to fill out, you have to declare any accidents in the past 5 years, and as soon as you tick that box, there's a mandatory section on all the claim details (which obviously don't apply).

So how does that work?

You fill it out, put fault in, leave value as 0 etc then call up the insurer with the cheapest quote, give them your reference and properly explain what happened.

Did your company? What did you scrape it against?

And I don't know how much the other car claimed for, if they claimed at all. But Axa won't give me any details on it because I'm not the policy holder... it's all getting a big PITA.

In the description you use the time worn phrase ' No claim made'.

I believe the company claimed a repair, but I don't know to what amount.

About a 3cm scratch on a car parked on a junction with one of those pesky matte black vinyl wraps that I couldn't see in the dark. Had to go to the police station in the morning to report it because I couldn't find the owners.

You'e going to have to put it down as a claim then. I'd do as @nevershear suggested.

Wouldn't that mean all the employees with the vehicle access would have to put the claim down as well, if the policy they drive under had a claim made, and vice versa?

No. They weren't driving when it happened. That would only apply if the policy were in their name.

Not in my name either, and no claim was ever made in my name - that was the company. In fact, it could even have been the lease agent contracted by the company (will have to check).

I don't know how to get hold of the claim amounts to declare because I'm not the policy holder.

You have to declare any 'accidents' that you were involved in. You were responsible for this one, so are 'at fault'. The fact that you don't have all the claim information does not exempt you from declaring that you were in an 'at fault accident' and that a claim was made. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear - it will cost you more for insurance for a few years.

When you have a more complex issue like this, you cannot follow the standard box ticking exercise, process it as you having a claim, when you call the insurer, then they can decide how they want to adjust your rate. Whatever happened to you will be on the MIB, which they have access to (assuming your company reported the scrape to the insurer, if the other car claimed - that'll be on there), so even if you cannot get the particulars on the scrape - they'll be able to do it, you'll just have to simply tell them you don't know.

Whichever way you do this, it's going to be a slight premium increase even if it didn't lead to a claim.

Nope not trying to get out of it at all, just trying to work out what to write in the boxes that assume that everyone who has an accident was the vehicle owner, policy holder and was given all the info of the outcome

"Slight" lol Yep when I tried the quote as a fault accident and settled claim, my premiums shot up from about £370 to £1500.

Yeah best thing to do is take a reference, call the insurer, explain what happened. That'll probably not wind up being the end price because that is insane. If it is that's very unfortunate (and in which case, go for a policy specialist like Adrian Flux or PolicyAssist, they'll probably get a price way less)

Can your company not help you with the specifics at all? They should have the exact info.

Not in time for tomorrow when I'm picking up the new car :P

Been scratching my head over this for a week. Might just have to take the plunge and pay up if I don't hear back today.
Also having to work out how my mum can get on the policy too - she had 9 years no claims, knocked a car in a car park, and despite no claims being made and having protected no claims, they took her down from 9 years to 3 which we've only discovered yesterday. So there's that to contend with too. And all this is happening while I'm trying to get in touch with Axa and they won't give me any details (despite me being the listed driver on the police report). It seems like something might have got lost in communications and the insurance is under the impression that it was actually my dad who had the accident when it was me, and so now they're expecting what? Both of us to claim accidents?

Someone shoot me now

Well I mean they can't name both of you as the fault driver on the MIB...
