Anyone else dislike when their housemates have friends over?

I'm staying in tonight because of my dissertation and all I want is some delicious food to keep me going.
Two housemates had some random guys over and I could hear that they were just stood by the hallway so I would have had to walk past and interact with them all. I'm in pjs, glasses and no makeup so I cba with that.
Now my other housemate has decided to host pres downstairs (even though she was always the one to enforce the 'must give warning if hosting pre drinks' policy). The living room and kitchen are joined together so if I go to cook or even shove something in the oven I have to stand around at their pres and engage in awkward conversation and look like a loser for not going out. Thought about ordering a takeaway but the door is right by the living room.

I can't be the only one like this surely? I'm all for people having their mates over but I dislike when they monopolise the house. I guess it would be fine if the living room and kitchen were separated. The one currently hosting pre drinks constantly has people over, I swear half the time it's to prove she has friends. Like she'll invite her mate over and they'll just sit awkwardly on the sofa when they could just do that in her room.

Clearly I'm just getting old and cranky.

I remember halls last year, and it was great except for when my flat mate invited her annoying friends over, like every day. She was a complete extrovert and clearly needed to be around other people.

Making dinner and feeling obligated to converse with her friends was such a chore lol
You're not alone.

A mate of mine had a lass over, who came over with the sole intention of meeting me. Locked myself in my room and put the GC on mute.

Your loss. I wouldnt let what some randoms supposedly think stand in the way of food.

Order or go and get a take away or just go and cook some food.

Luckily the randoms were only here for half an hour. But then immediately after that, a separate pre drinks started. These mates of hers are people I kinda know (because they're always round our bloody house) but I cba having to interact with them. Just want to make food in peace and not have an audience. They'll go soon...

Yeah exactly. And no longer feels like your own flat anymore. Don't feel fully relaxed and comfortable when you feel like you have to avoid people.
Honestly, I am in my third year too - I AM HATING DISSO LIFE - and my flatmates were the same. I don't drink, club or any of that ever. I actually just used to go into the room and not even say hello... but tbh, my flatmates were both medical students and ALWAYS had other medical students over. Screaming drunk rubbish at 3 am all the time.

Maybe, just say hello and pretend you're on the phone. Pop the food into the oven and ask your flatmate to keep an eye on it and then come back (still on the phone) and leave?

I wouldn't let anyone get in the way of my food.

So you would let the fact that there are some people in the house prevent you from getting food if you are hungry or ordering a take away?

It is feeble. get food and carry on enjoying your evening. How hard is that?

I'd be the same if I still lived with others. I just couldn't stand having people around me when I was cooking.

No need to be miserable with OP.
Lol I'm not ordering food this late plus it's expensive. I have dry food in my room that I've been eating, I just haven't had a proper dinner yet. I want good food which involves a bit of cooking and a bit of time in the kitchen. I can't just ignore them because I know they'll make an effort to engage me in conversation. It's a small cooking/living area so interaction is unavoidable. Yes I could just go ahead and cook and make noise and be at their pres but introverted me would rather wait it out. I know they won't bite me and it's not a big deal, but I was just wondering if anyone else ever feels the same.
Just order a takeaway. Come out of your room, get the door, say hi to everyone, go back in your room. Done.

Alternatively, wear a set of headphones while you're cooking. Should stop them talking to you. As long as you say hi when you see them then they can't accuse you of being rude or blanking them if you smile and say "hi everyone!".

Yes had gathered that, hence the takeaway. 30 mins? or 30 seconds to pay and pick up? I wouldnt let that stand in the way of getting food if I wanted some.

If its going to happen in future then she needs to learn and eat early or get food in.As long as the people arent obnoxious then its good to have plenty of socials round imo.

I don't know when pres are going to happen. No one ever gives warning, they just happen. So I'm not always going to eat every day at 5 just to be sure. Socialising is brill I agree. Just sucks this year because a couple housemates barely have any work so they're always having people over/coming back late at night and waking me up. Yes I could have gotten a takeaway but I don't really want one to be honest, I just want my own delicious meal that I had planned in my head. I have food in my room so I haven't starved to death but I wanted to wait it out in order to get the dinner I want.
Anyway thx guys, they have left now. About to cook up a feast.

So you have made it now? If so enjoy it and watch a nice film or something. Maybe if you know you are gong to be in then just do your prep early so theres min time you have to be in the kitchen. probably not allowed but some people had mircowaves in their room. You sound like you have the front downstairs room by the door.
