It is true that in the American society the only important thing is money?

Hi guys.

I noticed that in the USA the only thing that counts is money.
Why this I want to say that the USA tollerate everything but no the poverty, and they have a terrible welfare system.

Is it true?

America was founded on Christian principles and still adheres to them by and large. Christianity deplores the worship of Mammon.

Do not confuse Christianity and Protestantism with Catholicism.

In the States (in general), success is measured by wealth. What you do and what family you're born to are not as relevant as how successful you are. It's a deep seeded cultural characteristic that dates back to the immigrants who went to the country to "make something of themselves" and start a new life.

A typical American will be more impressed by a janitor who managed to create a chain of service centres over a surgeon who's just doing a normal job.

As for poverty, it signifies failure. The general assumption is that if you are poor, you are lazy, unambitious, and a drain on society.

Of course, there are always exceptions and you will find areas of the country where people are generally less impressed by wealth and more impressed by deeds/values and are more forgiving of the poor. But, this is generally the exception that proves the rule.

Those in glass houses....
As someone already said, Americans are impressed way more by someone working their way up than by people who are born into wealth. Unlike the UK there isn't an obsession with class.

I really appreciated your answer.
I would add that they work like no others, there are popped that work 80 hours per week, giving no importance to others things in life.
I read that someone lose his job just because he wanted to assist to the birth of his child....ridiculous society.

Poor people exist just because rich people paid them low salary and accumulate money.....
There are things that are way more important then money, like relatives, family, having fun, serious relationship between man and woman ( not based only on physical attraction), real feelings....
I believe America's class system and the amount of reverence you have for someone in American society is almost solely down to money and financial success. Whereas the British class system is infinitely more complicated and money isn't an instant qualifier to climb to the upper classes.

Do not confuse Christianity and Protestantism with Catholicism.
Jewis run most of the banks.

Catholicism is just a branch of Christianity. And what does it matter if the banks are "run by Jews" anyway?
just america? the whole world seems to be killing itself over money

Have you visited the US? You seem to have rather a narrow view of a very big, diverse country.

Hard work and achieving material success by your own efforts are certainly valued as others have said. However Americans also value family, friends and relationships highly. Large parts of the country, particularly away from the large cities, hold "traditional" church based values as very important. It's not all about making money.

Catholicism is the first branch of Christianity, Jews believe in God and they are doing a job that make people to suffer for financial issues.

Protestantism allow you do borrow money, Catholicism don't.

I'm no Catholic, but why would that denomination not allow you to borrow money? Seems silly. Also, denominational differences aside, both are Christianity.

Let me get this straight. You think Jews are in power of financial institutions that "make people suffer for financial issues". Putting aside for a moment the benefits of having the modern banking system that we do, why are you convinced that Jewish people are in charge of banks? Also, why does it matter?

Obviously that there are little differences, but everything is done for an economical reason.
In the High School there aren't hours of Philosophy and maybe because it's considered useless.

Everything find a justification in money, and economical revenue.

Protestantism is the main USA religion but the government never said nothing about the pornography that is mainly produced in Los Angeles.
This just because behind it there is a big economical interest.

The same for the cigarettes, Americans were the first to introduce them in movies and encourage people to smoke, ( to consume to buy in generale).
At that time wasn't proved that the smoke is dangerous, but then they did nothing to stop the spread of smoke.
Today it is not legal in my country to create ads that encourage to smoke.

The American society seem to be: work hard, learn money and consume as much as you can with no limit and then work again.

The expectation of life is not great, is lower that non-developed countries.

Americans love disposable income. They have some of the highest amounts of disposable income on the planet. It's helped by the fact the US government subsidises oil so much it is practically free or at least incredibly cheap per gallon.

Because by borrowing money you make other money by non-working.
Read the Holy Bible, there is a page where Jesus Christ denounce all the people that borrow money and didn't accept them into his Church.
Here you will find the pages I was speaking about https://www.openbible.info/topics/lending_money.

Here is why Jewish borrow money https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemach.

Why does it matter?
Because our society work in this mechanisms.
