Why isn’t Imperial College London popular world-widely?

Dear mod, please delete this thread. Thanks a lot.

Reputation and prestige problem. Do you guys think in the next 10-20 years it’ll make any differences?

I haven't met a single international student that looks down on Imperial.

Bit of a silly comparison. Imperial is superior enough to stand on its own two feet without being compared to Oxbridge... Not to mention how Imperial is a fairly specialised institution (STEM, Medicine and Business) compared to comprehensives like Oxford and Cambridge...

Cos Oxbridge is better / more prestigious? What sorta dumb ass question is that
Because it is in London and, you know, most people who go there live in London or close by I don't think people will care if they are so far away. (Also there are more worldwide popular universities.)
It's probably way too prestigious by the looks of it. It's like prodigy's are the only ones welcomed there and my lord their courses are giving me a headache they look too complex.

One thing that doesn’t get me is how low (imo) the entry requirements are. Idk for engineering or computer science, but for natural sciences like biology they only require AAA or IB 38. From a point of view of an international student, that’s truly a piece of cake.

Aha, also the yearly intake which is pretty high compared to any other ‘top/globally-recognized uni’.

Do bear in mind it's not AAA in any subject. The expect these 3 A-grades to be in biology (obviously), mathematics, physics or chemistry.

If you think Imperial is too, how can I put this? Below your league? Then I suggest putting all of your efforts into either an Oxford, Cambridge or upper-tier Ivy League + Stanford/MIT/Caltech application instead.

A lot of the international students and students outside the UK haven't heard of Imperial before it came to applying
.. and that’s exactly why I wasn’t asking ‘which is better: oxbridge or imp’. I was just curious about their global reputations and stuff. Thank you for your response, though. I wonder if I would receive similar responses if I start the corrsponding convo in Oxbridge sub-forum.

Hmm. What are you studying out of curiosity? Imperial is quite well known amongst home/international CompScis here at Edinburgh.

Med but you mingle with everyone at halls.
the only thing that differs between the two groups is the ‘history’. period.
Imperial is very well know. Do you know ETH Zurich? It's pretty much Imperial level and also does STEM in Switzerland. Because you need proficiency in German no one I know has ever applied there, and although it isn't as hard to "get in" as Imperial, the first year itself it a selection process as 50% fail. People just don't tend to know things that aren't the very best. People know Muhammad Ali but far less people know people of his era who were slightly worse. It's like that with unis, Oxbridge is the best and is known worldwide, Imperial/LSE is below Oxbridge so unless you are interested in their courses you are less likely to know of them.

Also: Endowmnet amounts - reflects how much money they spend on students and facilities
Amount of good quality research produced - lots of league tables rate that.
Exam results of graduates in the case of medicine

Lots of things.
I have read that Imperial and LSE are well known world wide. But then I have heard things like Oxford is the only well known UK uni worldwide (Cambridge not as known).

I wouldn't stress too much, at the end of the day if you go to these top unis you are getting a world class education
