Civilians often have security clearance, my dad had it he was never elected... military personnel have it they arent elected.
This makes little sense, just knowing information doesnt give you power.. He cant disclose or use it, with robert mueller breathing down his neck, he is one move from federal prison. Trump knows this and is trying to distance himself.

Honestly the Mueller investigation has done exactly what it intended they wont remove trump but its a constant reminder he ****s up he will go to jail. Checks and Balances, thats why Trump has toned it down alot if you hadnt noticed.

im assuming your had had some expertise and qualifications that made him suited for a role that required security clearance.

Kushner has no experience or expertise in this area and still got one

President Trump doesnt have a prior qualification to become president lol..... There is no qualification required to security clearance thats not the purpose, all security clearances purpose is to inform the individual that if they misuse the information they obtain through it they can be punished to a much higher extent of law. ie collusion ie treason.
Thats the main purpose.

Its not like you graduate with Phd and get a call from the PM with a security clearance...

its whomever the president trusts and puts in his cabinent in this situation and in general, whomever the government vets and employs.

He doesn't. It was temporary and has just been downgraded. Along with all the other aides that had temporary "top secret" clearance.

Quite embarrassing for the Administration really.

elected politicians are exempt from the qualification thing because of democracy.

the fact that you can go to prison for leaking is irrelevant(if you get caught), it has absolutely nothing to do with the abuse of power, bad practise and anti meritocratic nature of handing them out to relatives.

its exactly what happens, the moment you are qualified, you apply for a job, if you get it, then you are vetted, then civil service ring you up and confirm you got it.

Doesnt matter who the president trusts, everyone should be vetted and be their on merit. No special temporary exemption for one person

And then they tell you, nah, you're just getting Secret not Top Secret.

Well, he will probably get top secret again. It is simply up to General Kelly to go over each aide and determine the appropriate clearance level. Kushner being such a senior figure won't have any trouble with getting the nod.

Well apparently the american authorities felt he was sufficient to be given clearance, otherwise he wouldnt have got it.. Now it could be possible some of his behaviour has been deemed inappropriate and he has lost that privelege.

Rules in the US are very different there is no "qualification" required to become an advisor to the government, the cabinet and advisory teams are totally up to the president and the executive branch to decide.

three branches

Executive (President and co)
Judicial (supreme courts and co)
legislative (senate and co)

Trump could have awarded it himself, it's as if he's testing Kelly to come to the "right" decision...

There is a backstory to this. It has little to do with Kushner's inappropriate acts.

And the Cabinet members holding federal positions (exc. VP) are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

im fully aware of the sexual allegations mess, but as a special advisor to the president which is what kushner is senate does not have to confirm him.

Indeed. But you were talking about the Cabinet, as well as the advisory team.

The cabinet is also only confirmed as a ceremonious sort of undertaking 99% of the time unless there is a major scandal or character issue the presidents cabinet selections are honored.

Only when you get into things that overlap like Fed chairs, there needs to be real consensus and Supreme court judges.

Im american lol. (grew up watching the circus closely).

Well, SC appointments depend on who controls the Senate. They usually do not depend on consensus and if you watch the hearings, from district nominations to SC nominations, the hearings are heavily politicised and superficial. The right venerate the nominee and the left take the opportunity to get their sound bite in. The most amusing example was Al Franken trying to explain to Gorsuch the absurdity principle in relation to statutory interpretation.

See Garland's nomination and refusal to hear him, Gorsuch's confirmation though it was strongly opposed by the Democrats (but not the ABA!), and of course the Clarence Thomas fiasco in the 90s. All of these happened without consensus from both parties, unfortunately. That said, SC nominees tend to be highly qualified and so whoever is chosen, be it Marland and Gorsuch, are principled jurists first and foremost. The political show does not significantly affect the discipline of SC judgments.

a senate majority = consensus
at least in american politics unspokenly.

Jared kushner is not as powerful as a supreme court justice lol.

Primarily there are leading judges on the bench that influence the rest of the bench,

thats why republicans were so desperate to win this presidency in order to create a more right leaning bench. Which they now have.. Something that can far outlast any senate/presidency as supreme court judges serve generally for life or until they retire.

The judge Gorsuch replaced is Scalia. The current court is not more right wing than the last.

Yea but had it been a democratic president it would have went the other way and you would have had a left wing supreme court.
