Ironic considering that the EU themselves have been pushing for a United States of Europe and have been slowly getting there, step by step, treaty by treaty towards further integration
Ask yourself something, why is it that Norway and Switzerland have such a greater GDP per capita than us? Why are Norway and Switzerland at 1 and 3 on the HDI index while we are at 16. The self hating amongst us might say it's because of how retched a country we are, and how corrupt and decadent we are. But perhaps there's a more positive vision, perhaps the reason that the two independent countries on the EU's doorstep outperform the EU in every comparable way is that they have embraced free trade.

The EU is a protectionist racket, they have weak and ineffectual trade deals and a huge common external tariff, add to that the double whammy from non tariff barriers such as high regulatory standards and an energy market that shoves energy costs far in excess of market rates and suddenly we start to see the impact of the EU's nanny statism and protectionism, free trade always, always, always makes you richer, and in the short term we may get poorer, in the long term we'll do better as we'll be able to address the fact that in an age of cheap transportation, we still sell more to five million Irish than 1.3 billion Chinese, we'll be outside of the EU's cowering tariff walls, and hopefully free of it's "anti-dumping" as well, and we'll be able to do a lot better as the purchasing power of our currency rises due to cheaper imports.

No, don't ask yourself that, as it's a total apples-to-pears comparison exposing your utter economic illiteracy.

Yeah, the self-hating among you lot, but also the rest of the world.

As for the two independent countries - see above.

Strange that the EU is pretty much booming at the moment (far outperforming Britain, but then that's very easy these days) with its 'weak and ineffectual' trade deals.

It's so sad and funny at the same time how people like you think Britain could negotiate advantageous trade deals, being the arrogant minnows that you are. Trump will have you for breakfast, the Chinese will laugh at you, and your former colonies can't wait to return the favor of economic exploitation (since genocide isn't an option).
Oh my god. Really? The OP simply collates MSM links, all confirming his bias and all from the same Remainer perspective, and believes every single one of them as gospel? LMAO, seriously?

If we lived in a truly just society children would learn about propaganda, its methods, and how it's implemented from an early age, so they could see through it and learn to think for themselves, so they don't end up like this poor GentleGerman guy.

It's quite pitiful to see such gullibility and lack of intelligence.

Because Norway has sh1t loads of oil and fish and a sovereign wealth fund big enough to buy each citizen a Tesla and Switzerland has made a very good living out of sitting on the fence. You might say they both have a unique selling point.

Britain? We are all and nothing. We have built our wealth primarily on empire and trade. We no longer have our empire and have just shot ourselves in the foot regarding trade. Everyone who is anyone gets this one - except the hardline Brexiteers who still believe we can do better without Europe. But it's ok. I hear Ghana and Jamaica are up for a trade deals post Brexit. We'll just put Germany and France back on the shelf.

As a firm believer in free trade, I agree with you, but simply claiming Norway and Switzerland are better solely because of it is a little simplisitic. Both are tiny tiny countries, with incredible homogenous populations. Norway has a tonne of oil money and has had enormous military help from the US covering it's costs.

What about brexit voters who want an open doors immigration policy? Currently restricted from doing so due to the xenophobic EU.

In other news Aviva raised their dividend 18% this week.
Remember we have not left yet, so the worst is yet to come. Retailing is suffering greatly already.

Voting to leave the EU doesn’t make somebody xenophobic.

Really? ASOS sales up 28% in their January trading statement.

Do you mean high street retailers suffering from rate increases, rent increases and salary rises?

It's a shame that people in this country no longer teach, they just indoctrinate.

It sure is. Little would benefit society more than teaching people to think for themselves critically, accurately and skilfully, and yet the opposite it happening. The 'long march through the institutions' is still in full effect, and the age at which school children start the indoctrination process continually gets lower.

It's really a bad, bad state of affairs. I do admire all the young people today who have rejected all that nonsense and have recognised it for what it is. It's cause for hope.
