Should I pick A-Levels or BTEC?

I'm a girl in year 10 and we've started think about what we should do after we finish secondary school. My predicted grades for my GCSEs are grade 9s in all subjects and my parents tell me that I should do A levels because otherwise I won't get into a good university. However, I really want to be a game developer and I saw that the amount of UCAS points awarded for a level 3 BTEC is the same as 3 A levels. Would it be better if I studied a Level 3 BTEC in Games Technology instead of doing A levels so that I can become a game developer? Could I still get into a good university?

Listen to your parents. BTEC will limit your options to non-prestigious universities, unless you're fine with that.

I'd go with a levels in all honesty.

A levels, without a doubt.
Go with A-Levels because you're keeping your doors open. In a few years, you might completely change your mind on what you want to do, as a lot of people end up doing.

Over 95% of universities accept BTEC

People from my BTEC class went to: Manchester, Southampton, Bath, Kings College London, Royal Holloway, Cardiff, Surrey and UCL.

I completed my BTEC in IT/Computing a while ago and I graduated from a top 20 (at the time) with a BSc in Computer Science and am currently studying at a top 10 uni for my MSc.

If you know what you wanna do then I say go for the BTEC, I’m in my second year of Music Technology BTEC and haven’t regretted it for a second. If you want to study it at uni then I personally think it’s better because you get two years of experience doing what you’re going to specialise in without doing 2 other irrelevant subjects. For Moreno practical courses such as gaming a lot of universities actually prefer BTEC over A levels as it shows you have more experience in the subject. If you have any doubts however I would recommend doing A levels because then you are keeping your options open in case you change your mind.

Precisely - if you want to get into one of those 5% of universities, you'll be faced with disappointment, and OP needs to know these limitations. Those may be good universities, but when I said prestigious I meant more Oxford/Cambridge/Imperial, and it's extremely rare to get into those with BTEC.

Would say A levels are better

Go with A levels, it keeps all options open.

A BTEC in Games Technology will severely restrict your future options if your career ideas change, which is very possible given you are only in year 10.
I’m currently doing a-levels, I chose them because I went exactly with that safe option. I hate it, in my opinion do something you will enjoy otherwise you will be unhappy for 2 years and might not do well due to being happy. Do something you know you won’t regret.
