Can't Communicate with Person in Group
Hello!
So I'm on a games course, and for one of the modules we have to do group work. We had our group set up, but the lecturer came over and asked if we could add someone to our group. Fine, no problem. Wouldn't want the guy left out.
Anyway, so we've reached the small issue that he can hardly speak English. We have to have everything written down and use google translate to talk. He's told the lecturer he doesn't need a translator.
Also, he's nigh impossible to get a hold of, and he did nothing towards the first part of our assessment and is pretty much cheating towards the second part.
We've told the lecturer and she said not to worry unless it's a problem later on.
Is there anything we can do?

Make the issue in writing. Keep a diary of all steps each person has done and sign it. If they make no effort make a departmental complaint. Evidence is your friend. He should pull his weight or you can complain.
Rest of the group needs to agree. It must be clear you are giving him opportunities and he isnt contributing. Make the point its unfair he is holding you back or slacking.

Speak to your lecturer and insist that there is a language barrier and they might be able to arrange something. If he is cheating then you need to convey the message using Google Translate that it's not acceptable.
I'm guessing it's games development? Coding is generally a universal language so you could just point out what he should do and he can get to work.
I would consider pair programming as well, it allows two people to come to an agreement over coding standards too so if he's doing something silly, the person working with him will be able to point it out.

If you can't communicate without writing/Google translate, then he clearly does need an interpreter. Talk to the lecturer about this, and make it clear that it would make your life much easier if you had an interpreter present at group meetings.
If you have taken reasonable steps to contact him (e.g. Facebook messages, email, texting, calling etc.) and he's still not responding, again, talk to your lecturer so they can make it clear that it's not acceptable. Also, if he is cheating, make sure that he is aware of this by showing him your student regs on plagiarism or whatever.
If this a group project that we will be marked individually by contribution (999tigger's suggestion about evidence is ideal), then clearly it's not going to be too much of an issue. However, if you'll be getting one mark for all of you, then it's clearly an issue now and should be addressed.
If your lecturer won't do anything speak to the program director. Tell them you can't function in a group where one person cannot speak English. He should have passed an English language test to attend uni so either he cheated on the test or there is something else going on here... either way he can't do a degree if he can't speak the language.
Also - be aware a whole group can be held responsible for academic misconduct if something plagiarised is submitted under your whole name and you knew. So depending what his 'cheating' involves you need to be careful to cover your back - make sure it's at least recorded in email to your lecturer that he is doing X and you are not happy about it.
