Newcastle vs Exeter

Hi I have had offers from both Newcastle (offer: 35 IB points) and Exeter (offer: 36 IB points) for BA geography. I am predicted 37. I've already decided to make Birmingham my 2nd choice because they've offered me 32, providing a really good safety net for me.

So basically, now I am stuck between Newcastle and Exeter for my firm choice. Both the courses are decent, both the unis are well renowned, both have really good town centres etc. I can't really find any HUGE differences between the unis. Probably the biggest is that Newcastle is up north and apparently the nightlife is amazing. I am really struggling to chose :frown: does anyone have any insight on which would be better for geography, someone who loves to socialise and finally someone involved in netball.
Thanks in advance )))

Newcastle does have a great night life, living costs for students are one of the best in the UK, and there is so much to do in the city centre alone and it's nearby areas (cinemas, theatre royal, dog and cat cafes, many great bars/clubs, Baltic, Metro Centre etc. Unfortunately, im not too sure about netball. Newcastle also offer great bursaries depending on your income/grades. Have you attended post applicant days for both unis? I found them extremely helpful. See what Exter can offer you (academically/socially/financially) and contrast it with Newcastle.
Which Exeter campus is it for? The two people I knew who were based on the Cornwall campus really enjoyed it (and one was doing Geography in fact). My experiences in the engineering department at the main campus were considerably more mixed, but Geography is one of the better departments at the main campus so, your mileage may vary. I believe the course is slightly more physically/environmentally oriented at both campuses, although I don't think it's to a great extent. You might in general want to look at the course content available, and maybe the specific research done by the departments, as this is often indicative of optional module choices and dissertation titles available.

I attended Newcastle's open day and post applicant day, I really liked it everyone was hella friendly and kept talking about how they never want to leave hahah. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to Exeter's open day or post applicant day - I live in Hong Kong so it's always difficult to make the dates. Ah :frown: but I visited the Exeter (Streatham campus) just on a day during summer - it was super empty so I didn't really get a good vibe.

In terms of netball, I am pretty sure Exeter is ranked higher than Newcastle.. need to check. In general, I feel myself leaning towards Newcastle, my grandparents live in Sunderland so it's nice in that sense etc. PLUS Exeter was so awkward to get to on the trains from london... I found Newcastle a lot easier because of direct trains.

AT this point I think I may have to do a direct comparison of what each course entails. Hopefully, this will help me decide. Thank you for your advice!!!

Hi! The Streatham Campus, so main campus. Hmm, I tend to lean more towards 'human geography'. I have looked at the course and it looks really good, to be honest. I haven't looked into the specific research done by the departments - I will do this because I am super interested in human development so if that pops up it will make me very happy!! Thanks for your advice
