How to identify halides - Chemistry A level

I want to test a compound to check what halides are present i.e chloride, bromide and iodide ions.

I have the following reagents that I can use:

Aqueous barium nitrate

Aqueous Bromine

Aqueous silver nitrate

Aqueous sodium carbonate

Concentrated ammonia solution

Dilute hydrochloric acid

Dilute sodium hydroxide Solution

Hexane


I know that silver nitrate and ammonia can be used, but what other methods are there using the above reagents?

Most of these other reagents are used to test for other functional groups and ions. I only know of silver nitrate and ammonia being used to test for halides

How does nitric acid help in identifying the halides?
see if it converts to an alkene under a reaction of a strong base (KOH) aqueous in ethanol with an elimination reaction....???

It removes unwanted ions which could form a precipitate and give a false result
