Several possible explanations are advanced but could it be the most obvious?

That millions of Americans are sick and tired of the millionaire Hollywood stars virtue signalling and posturing about Trump, #BlackFrocksMatter, Trump, Diversity, Trump ya de ya?

I want to watch an actor act. They get very well paid for it, and I don't begrudge them a penny. Good for them.

But when they open their mouth and spout politics they make me want to puke. Shut the fcuck up already...

Or maybe audience figures for single television programs have been in general decline due to people having so many options these days. They were in decline long before Trump ever got into office. Heh @ your hatred though.

Oh that doesn't nearly come close to the same thing. Anyone with functional brain cells knows that The Sun is the most trying tabloid ever. It's not worthy to wipe dog **** with. I am open to discussion, but if you link 'The Sun' to prove your point than that's just laughable.

What about if you link the Sun, The Times and the BBC, all reporting essentially the same story? Being so outraged at the source of a simple bit of reportage is what is laughable.

No, you have proved, by your own words, that your mind is closed to any opinions that don't accord with your own. You won't even consider them before rejection, the link doesn't even need to be clicked on. And you wonder everyone else terms you snowflakes! Will the Sun melt you, perhaps?

To condemn any piece of data simply because of the source, which is very common on here by the left, especially vis a vis the Daily Mail is also a logical fallacy called "poisoning the well."

It ought to be obvious (but sadly often isn't) that it is the case made that needs to be proven or disproven, on its own merits, not the medium through which it is made.

Except for the fact that I do listen to other people's opinions. I am naturally open-minded to people's contributions and assert value to their thoughts. I didn't notice the other links, so I'm sorry I misjudged but everyone who knows how to read will know that the sun is not a credible source. If I was to reference "the sun" in my essays I will get no marks for it because my professors do not deem it a suitable source. It is a tabloid known for deliberately writing controversial tripe in an uneducated manner for people who have limited education to read. I'm sorry if this offends but it is simply the truth.

The only things that offend are that you were so outraged by the inclusion of the Sun in the list that your reading and analysis abilities went into sharp decline, and that you are still spluttering about it. That is not very academic, is it? It comes across as source shaming, to coin a phrase, and thereby attempting to dismiss the intellect of the person you are discussing it with.

You cannot dismiss a source that carries a valid fact.

Plus the times is very well respected and monitored. Same for the BBC

What you say doesn't offend me, but it is a disappointing, alarming even, indictment of the intellectual standards of contemporary universities, if true.

Quite frankly, if your Professors gave you no marks for a citation from the Sun (were it relevant) they are idiots.

I am not saying the Sun is a great newspaper, it isn't. But in this story, what it said was factually true. That is the standard by which a source needs to be judged, not the fact that it shows pretty girls in lingerie on other pages. Or that many of its readers are not educated to university standard and therefore its writers have to file copy using a limited vocabulary. Or (and this is probably more to the point as far as your left wing Professors are concerned) that it has a right of centre political leaning.

LOL, 'right of centre'. That's a bit like describing the Socialist Worker as 'left of centre'.

Indeed. People aren't watching less TV or Film, they are just watching it on a different medium.

In time I think less and less films will be be released in the cinema as they are increasingly shown on platforms such as Netflix.

True no doubt.

But it doesn't explain ratings falling off a cliff in just twelve months.

If my hypothesis is correct, and millions of Trump voters were giving Hollywood the finger it is bad news for the latter. These guys are older, and disproportionately consume media the old fashioned way. Fox News and especially syndicated radio shows. Rush Limbaugh (I bet most people on this website have never even heard of him) a combative talkshow radio host, is one of the most influential opinion formers in the whole country.
