Egnlish GCSE ( Language being second language)

Hi Everyone,
So you might be confused with the title.

What would your advice and tips be for a person who's English is second language?

I'm studying GCSE Language; it's my second year at it at College where it should have been a year, but my Tutor extended it for me because she thought that I needed further help. I'm very worried about my grades (Exam grades) being quite low.

Many thanks

Understand the specification i.e what different tasks in which paper you will be expected to do.

Make notes- then practice exam questions, get them marked and read the mark schemes. Mr Bruff will help you understand what you have to do.

PS you might not be doing AQA , but you can adapt what his advice is.

I would also suggest completing workbooks over the summer.

Hi, Thanks for the vid link, I', actually doing AQA, I've seen some of MR Bruffs videos they are good but still struggling on how to increase my gradings.
I'm apparently a level 3 on 2 of my mock exams so I'm looking to get higher grade for my actual Exam.
I really want to increase my vocabulary and also my grammar :frown: these are the only things that I struggle on.

There should be enough with Bruff and his books to get a 7 easily.
Are you practising exams and then reading mark schemes?

I will see if I can see some sites, but you could be learning 5-10 words a day or just having a dictionary and when a word comes up you dont know then look it up.

I do practice Exams only in the class when my tutor hands us the mock exam, otherwise I don't know where I can get mock exams from you see.
and when we do get the results back from her hse gives us students responses on the mock exam we did, so I still dont know how the gradings criteria works.

Either or both
You need to get up to speed asap as to whats expected of you and how to answer each type of question
