Which en-suite accommodation is the best?

I’m interested in an en-suite accommodation, I haven’t gotten around to visiting the place and the website isn’t so helpful in providing easy to access pics of each of the en-suite rooms. Which en-suite room would you recommend the most / least? I’m doing Law so if there’s a hall nearby it would be nice. Also I heard there are isolated buildings... I don’t want to be in those. As the social life wouldn’t be as great. Thanks

Hi,

At Reading we have a few different choices regarding type of ensuite room. We have:

- Self-catered Premium ensuite. Rent: £170.06 per week.
- Self-catered standard enuite. Rent: £149.24 per week.
- Catered standard ensuite. Rent: £187.43 per week.

The best hall for you depends on what you are looking for, it seems like you’re interested in something sociable and I’d say that all of our halls are good for socialising and meeting new people.

The catered ensuite rooms and many of the premium ensuite rooms are part of the Park Group of halls which is the largest grouping and therefore had the most opportunity to meet people.

In the standard ensuite, Greenow and McCombie is part of Park Group but is a fairly small hall itself. Benyon and Sherfield are part of the Northcourt group which is further away from the Law school than the others but they are still sociable. These have the most people with standard ensuite rooms. St. Georges is a smaller hall but there are still lots of chances to meet people. This is where I lived in first year and I managed to meet plenty of friends there. There’s a really nice common room for people in St. Georges to use with a pool table, sofas a tv etc it’s a good space for communal activities such as pre-drinks.

If you want a double bed and a newer hall you might like to look at the premium ensuite rooms. These are all (aside from the small availability of Post-Grad accommodation in Bridges hall) part of the Park Group and are closest to the Law School. Childs Hall is the closest if that really matters to you. The Park Group has a popular bar and is considered one of the most social groups of halls.

Have you looked through the accommodation guide? If not you can access a PDF of it here: https://www.reading.ac.uk/~/media/files/other/accommodation%20guide.ashx?la=en
Something to bear in mind is that you won’t have all of your lectures in the law school. You can see it on this PDF map of halls: http://www.reading.ac.uk/web/files/accommodation/Walking_distances_to_halls.pdf next to Childs and it’s called Foxhill.

If you have any other questions, then just let me know!

Hi,

So as Dan mentioned, the en-suite halls which are closest to Foxhill are Child's or Stenton Hall. These are premium en-suite halls which means this has a 4ft bed (slightly smaller than a double, slightly larger than a single).
Whereas our standard en-suite rooms do only have a single bed.
These are all detailed in the PDF below.
