Deciding between Film Production and Business/Marketing?!

Hi guys, I've gotten offers from Southampton Solent (Film & TV Prodcution), Sheffield Hallam (Business & Marketing) and Plymouth (Marketing).

I've paid visits to all three unis, and whilst Plymouth and Sheffield Hallam seem like excellent unis, I've also got the opportunity to do something 'fun' and creative at Solent. Equally though... doing marketing/business is quite a 'secure' career route to take. I feel like I need to maybe try and apply for one more uni in the film production department to get a good feel for it as a subject and see whether Solent is that good.

Basically the question is: do I follow my dreams in this situation and go the film production route, or do I think realistically? I'm in a secure job at the moment so I really don't want to come out of uni with a pile of regrets!

Solent's course has an optional placement year doesn't it? That plus practical experience in film production would give you a whole bunch of transferable project management skills that could be transferred to a business or marketing role after graduation if you decide that the career isn't for you. Can you specialise in Solent? If you can specialise on commercials/advertising film/tv production then you'd be highly attractive to marketing roles (in house expertise is always valuable). Going in the other direction (from marketing degrees into film/tv production) would be trickier.
Hello!

Also at Solent we have an on campus creative agency which students can freelance at: http://solentcreatives.co.uk/ You can choose freelancing there as one of your optional units in your second or third year too. So you can get involved with some of the advertising and marketing campaigns they run there

Thanks,

Kate
