Mourinho and the players thought they were so much better than Sevilla that they could win whenever they liked. Poetic that it was a Montella change who won this game with a great change with 15mins to spare.
There is no logic to this. We set up this way against Liverpool and Spurs, its how we set up pretty often in big games. Its a theme in games that carry weight so to suggest there was no respect is the opposite of the truth. Every time Jose is scared of losing, this is how we set up, for a 1-0 win.
People going on like they are FC Baku... they are a very good side and the arrogance that assumed we would smash them at Old Trafford. is what lost us this tie...
This is also incorrect, a very good side doesn't have a negative GD in march for a start.
This style that Jose likes in big games first of all is hugely dependant upon who scores first and requires clinical finishing of often half chances. Secondly Jose still hasn't acknowledged this side isn't a good one defensively, we give up way too many shots in good positions. The players in the defence for the most part are not top quality individuals and the tactic of numbers behind the ball is overall a fairly poor one as a singular defensive tactic.
If we lose against Brighton then Man City win the title at Old Trafford the week after it will probably the most infuriating run of games in the post Fergie era.

Except we didn't go into this defensively, we went to it passively, there is a difference. It' not like at he weekend when we sat deep and defended the 18 yard line and looked for counters. We looked like we didn't have any plan at all and that's not the first time this has happened and mostly it has accompanied poor results / spells against teams we should be beating. I disagree we set set up for a 1-0 win entirely.
Mourinho said this game was more important the Liverpool game. We looked like we had a plan for that game, this game we didn't, that doesn't make sense.
If who scores first is so important why did he wait and wait for Sevilla do so tonight? He must have known we had to win clearly tonight, he's not an idiot. If the first goal is so important why did he spend the first 2.5 hours of this game seemingly quite happy to not score?
