Where do you buy your summer clothes?

I'm looking for inspiration to help me look for skirts, maxi dresses, sleeveless tops and light cardigans / jackets for the summer. I'm going to America where it'll be over 30C pretty much every day, for 6 weeks. That's a lot of sun for a pasty white person from England, so I need to stay cool, but also covered to avoid any burning.

Where do you buy your clothes for the summer? Any particular favourites?

I would choose between three options, if I were you: firstly, I am going shopping in the city I live to buy summer clothes short before or after the begin of the summer season. You can even ask a salesman or saleswoman in the shop or recepion to get recommendations or good tips for your Journey to America. Secondly, the same as in firstly, with the difference that you are buying the clothes in America. Thirdly, looking for clothes in the internet.

I find New Look quite helpful. Asos is my absolute saviour though. They have their own and loads of different brands and loads to choose from

Think of ancient desert tribal people's; many wear loose but very covering outfits (no legs on show etc) for good reason. (So while it's nice to have a few shorts or mini skirts etc in your summer ensemble collection), investing in a few maxi length dresses or skirts etc will definitely help keep you feeling cooler (and help cut down on the amount of suncream needed to stay protected etc).

ASOS always has a lot of summer clothes at any given time of year (however because it stocks such a diverse array of brands, the the sizing & pricing of their stock is very variable). Personally I have gotten some really nice summery dress from ASOS over the years: http://www.asos.com/women/

Boohoo is a good option if you're shopping on a budget as most of their clothes retail for £25 or less (and bargain sales are a regular event). You pay for what you get (however I have to say that most of my best loved maxi skirts have been obtained from Boohoo): http://www.boohoo.com/

New Look have a large array of stock available and they have started to stock more Summery clothes (plus unlike ASOS & Boohoo you can always go in store to try things on):

I'd also recommend investing in a hat or visor as you'd be surprised at what a considerable difference they make in helping you stay cool (and help protect the face for UV rays). However be mindful that if you're buying one made out of straw, it can be a hassle getting it through the journey in one good condition (so it can be a better idea to buy a hat after you've landed).

I've lived in a southern US state for 3 years and can tell you that the person above is right - loose layers are much better than skimpy clothing. It's usually around 35C in the summer where I live and my go-to is cargo shorts, loose tshirt and loose long-sleeved shirt on top. And a hat, definitely a hat - helps avoid headaches.

What you need to consider though is what you'll be doing. If you're going to be working all day in the sun you need to dress differently than visiting air-conditioned malls and museums.

Clothes in the US are cheaper than the UK and if you're gonna be here 6 weeks you may want space in your bag to bring things other than just clothes. Perhaps look at walmart's website or oldnavy or other US stores - they're two of my favorites as I don't like spending much on clothes but they have a good selection catering to US weather so you could always buy clothes here instead.

AND DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!!!
