LLM Law at King's College London

Hi everyone!

Has anyone applied for the LLM in Law at King's College London?

If so, what marks to you have if you don't mind sharing them? I am in my final year of my undergrad at a redbrick uni and I want to apply. My second-year average mark is 63% and I am heading for a very high 2.1 or low first, as all my final-year marks so far have been firsts. Unfortunately, my first-year marks are all capped at 40% as I struggled with severe depression and instead of deferring my exams, I sat all of them, and, of course, failed them.

I know it is an extremely competitive programme, but do you think I have any chance?

The entry requirement is a 2.1 so as long as you have that and good refs you will be fine.

They don’t request references, and unfortunately, as I have learned today by calling them, they don’t care for mitigating circumstances and want a 65% average over all three years and not just a 2.1 overall your degree.

Feeling sad and desperate is an understatement. I really wanted a chance to be considered at least.

The issue is that my first year marks are capped at 40% so my average is 40%. My second year average is 62% and all my marks in my third and final year have so far been 72% and 75%. I am really feeling much better and enjoying my course so much and I know I want to specialise in EU law.

My personal statement, according to the careers services at my university and two of my tutors, is very good. But when I called admissions at KCL today to check if I should include mitigating circumstances in a separate letter, they explicitly said that they don’t care for them and want a 65% overall on all three years, which is completely different to what both reps told me on the open day two months ago. And one of them was the postgraduate admissions tutor.

I am so gutted and disappointed in myself. I really really want to study at KCL, but now I don’t know what to do. Should I apply for the sake of it? I know it’s a very competitive course and they get far too many applications, but it seems so unfair...

Undergraduate degree with high 2:1 honours (i.e. overall average of at least 65%) in Law or a degree with at least 70% law content.

I think that I will apply anyway just so that I don’t have any regrets later. I never thought that I had it in the bag, but I had a little bit of hope that maybe...
