Which is the best lse accommodation

Since LSE isn’t the most renowned for its night life, I really want to choose a hall with a good social atmosphere...
I’ve heard bank side is the best socially but then I’ve also heard it’s impersonal and a bad location. I’ve also heard roseberry is pretty social and a bit nicer but then I also haven’t heard so much about it. High Holborn seems to be the best location but apparently the people there tend to be snooty? I’m not sure where I’ve heard this! If anyone could give me some advice it would be much appreciated as this is my main fear with choosing LSE!

Hey thanks for replying. Sorry that was badly worded..I’m actually from London so I’m not so much bothered on what’s going on around cause as you said, I’m pretty aware of where’s good etc but my main worry is social people. Also on another note do the rooms vary at all or are they pretty bog standard student halls?

Hey, I'm in the same situation don't know if to apply to carr saunders due to its small number of people or bankside which is huge. Which is more social? Would like to find friends who like going out and nightlife. Also, 38 weeks at bankside are a benefit for me as I'm not from the UK.. but I'm scared bankside´ too big and can make you feel a bit lonely as I'm shy and find it hard putting myself out there to make new friends, maybe a smaller number of people in the hall makes it more welcoming?

Hey - if it helps at all, it seems that In general if you pick any of Bankside, passfield, Carr Saunders or roseberry there will always be a good social aspect. I went for passfield as my first choice in the end which seemed to me the best size...Aside from that it’s in a really good area of London plus there are loads of other uni halls near it which creates a better student atmosphere, meaning Carr Saunders would probably also be just as good a choice, and in reality it’s not even that small!

Hey, know the thread has kinda died, but if anyone is still on it, have you heard anything about Northumberland House? Really like the location but don't know anything else about it really.

Ahh, that's not promising. Do you by any chance know why they dislike it? Is it the social life or just the look of it?

It's all awful - terrible social life, way too many people sharing a single kitchen, not great location (far too central, so loud & polluted).

How come social life is so terrible?
Just trying to gather more info to decide between Northumberland and Bankside cause I've heard great things about Bankside but actually prefer the location of the first one, don't mind the noise. It's the social aspect that I'm worried about considering Northumberland is for postgrads as well

There are several reasons why Northumberland's social life is terrible compared to Bankside (& Rosebery/Passfield/Carr-Saunders)

1) No communal areas for whole hall - it's one of the only halls that doesn't have a common room or communal area for everyone from the hall to hang out. Bankside, Passfield and Carr-Saunders all have common rooms; Passfield also has a garden and Bankside has a bar. Therefore, it's very difficult at Northumberland to meet people on different floors; there's no natural place for you all to mingle in freshers' week, unlike Bankside/Passfield/C-S where everyone goes down to the common room/bar for predrinks & meeting new people every night of freshers.

2) Hall committee - Northumberland House's hall committee is rubbish at organising communal events; Bankside, Rosebery, Passfield and C-S all have really active committees who organise tonnes of social events.

3) Size - Bankside and NH both take postgrads, but as Bankside is so much bigger than NH, there are still tonnes of undergrads, which = better social life. There are comparatively few undergrads at NH.

4) Catering - At the catered halls like Bankside, the catered dinners are an amazing opportunity to mingle with people from every floor of the building and find friends; it's about 30-45 minutes of zero-effort socialising every day. At NH, you probably won't even meet people on different floors who don't share your kitchen.

I know a few people at Northumberland House & High Holborn, and they all really wish they had chosen Bankside, Carr-Saunders, Rosebery or Passfield instead.

I applied through Hallpad a few weeks ago and have been placed at Urbanest Westminster Bridge. At first I was torn out between Urbanest and Grosvenor House though ^_^
