How does one tackle ‘A Christmas Carol’? Any grade 7-9 student tips please?

What I would say is to watch the movie on your own alongside the books.

For me I've always had problems with reading and I'm 16 now, still can't read properly. But when you are fully concentrated and watching the film it helps.
You understamd the book better.

After you do that look at every important character.
Me Scrooge
Mr crathet
Mrs crathet
Mr scrooge's dead partner
The three ghosts
Mr crathets disabled son (forgot his name)

Then make some points about each of them and ask yourself why do you think the writer (Charles Dickens) chose to write this chose to write that.

It's usially to give an effect on the reader but you have to write what kind of effect it gives so they might use certain adverbs to make the audience feel sorry for the person then you write why he wanted the audience to feel sorry. Maybe he wanted to send a message to the audience e.g. Equality.

Something like that. Always ask yourself why and answer it in your writing.

Try to get an overall understanding of the novel - you only have one day so can’t remember everything. I’ve studied the novel and by purely reading this book I got an 8 in my exam! Ta definitely worth investing in for your final GCSE exam:

Try making a list of themes in the book - especially on how Scrooge changes. Also keep linking back to Dickens’ aim of the book - he was a socialist so tried to communicate his liberal views by sympathising for the poor and destitute (that’s his main purpose in the novel, however there are others mentioned in the book).

With the time you have, Id suggest watching Mr Bruff's videos. I also have a link to some papers so if you wanted to plan them and makes notes, I would suggest doing that.

Looking at BBC Bitesize may also be beneficial because it quickly summarises what you need! For the future, try not to leave it to the last minute. But dont worry, we've all been there and it's not the real thing
