How does one tackle ‘A Christmas Carol’? Any grade 7-9 student tips please?

I have my English Literature mock in 1 day and I’m stressing out because I haven’t done any notes or learnt any quotes. I barely understand the novella even though I reread the book and read the pages that’s before the story.

I don’t know how to write essay answers or answer the questions for ‘A Christmas Carol plus I can’t think of any fancy words to use in my essays. I want to write about context in each of my paragraphs but I don’t know how to link it to my quote.

Also I have a serious problem of when during my exams my mind goes completely blank that nothing comes to mind. Only when’s it 5mins left I just force myself to write anything and pray it gets me marks.
I can only write half a side of A4 which is pretty bad.

I desperately need help please as I don’t know how to get started on my revision or what to start first when revising A Christmas Carol. Do I even have enough time to at least revise? I just want a grade 6 but I don’t see it happening.

Any advice please?
What I would say is to watch the movie on your own alongside the book.

For me I've always had problems with reading and I'm 16 now, still can't read properly. But when you are fully concentrated and watching the film it helps.
You understamd the book better.

After you do that look at every important character.
Me Scrooge
Mr crathet
Mrs crathet
Mr scrooge's dead partner
The three ghosts
Mr crathets disabled son (forgot his name)

Then make some points about each of them and ask yourself why do you think the writer (Charles Dickens) chose to write this chose to write that.

It's usially to give an effect on the reader but you have to write what kind of effect it gives so they might use certain adverbs to make the audience feel sorry for the person then you write why he wanted the audience to feel sorry. Maybe he wanted to send a message to the audience e.g. Equality.

Something like that. Always ask yourself why and answer it in your writing.
Try to get an overall understanding of the novel - you only have one day so can’t remember everything. I’ve studied the novel and by purely reading this book I got an 8 in my exam! Ta definitely worth investing in for your final GCSE exam:

Try making a list of themes in the book - especially on how Scrooge changes. Also keep linking back to Dickens’ aim of the book - he was a socialist so tried to communicate his liberal views by sympathising for the poor and destitute (that’s his main purpose in the novel, however there are others mentioned in the book).

Thank you so much for your response! Hopefully during the exams when I have a nervous breakdown I’ll just breathe and think of why certain things were imputed by Dickens.
Lol me too 😓😂 good luck 💯
Hiii! I'm not a 7-9 English student but I do have some advise.

With the time you have, Id suggest watching Mr Bruff's videos. I also have a link to some papers so if you wanted to plan them and makes notes, I would suggest doing that.

Looking at BBC Bitesize may also be beneficial because it quickly summarises what you need! For the future, try not to leave it to the last minute. But dont worry, we've all been there and it's not the real thing
Good luck!!

Thank you so much!! I’ll try do some practice with the link you sent(so far when I read the first question I realised that I barely know the novel). After his experience I hope I never leave it last minute again. Thanks again!

No worries! I hope the test wasn't too bad. If you have any questions about the novella or answering it, I'm learning is for GCSE so I (hopefullly) can help

Thank you! Also the test was really good! We luckily got “Write about Scrooge’s turning point” so I was able to write a fair amount. Thank you yet again!
