anyone in year 12 and want to do engineering at uni

If yes which uni
And which type of engineering

Any engineers, give me advice
Moved to Engineering
What type of engineering are you interested in?

The big ones are Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical&Electronic, Chemical, and Civil. Alongside that you have Materials, Systems, and Naval. You also have General which will cover the big ones in your first couple of years then you will specialise later.

In terms of unis, look for unis with a large engineering faculty rather than just what rank a uni gets for that subject, e.g. somewhere like Swansea which has a big engineering focus will outpace a lot of other universities with higher rankings. Don't worry too much about grades, whether you've got ABB or A*A*AA, some universities at the bottom of that band of requirements will produce just as high quality graduates as those at the top. Also don't focus on Cambridge or Oxford if you're interested in a specific discipline of engineering, there's no point in going to study general if you know you want to do a certain discipline as you just won't get the same exposure to it, and you will need to push through disciplines you may despise on top of that.

Which league table? It's 20th on CUG above Exeter and some other RG universities.

And league tables don't matter to engineering employers anyway.

Despite that it also happens to be a fantastic engineering school with one of the highest rates of getting their graduates into engineering positions.

Which others are just as good as Swansea.

In terms of unis with relatively low requirements, both UWE and Bournemouth are very good.

You need to look at a range of universities that have A*AA to AAB entry requirements. They will all be pretty good for engineering.

Visit them. Have a look around. Talk to current students.

It's coming up to Open Day season. Draw up a shortlist and go to their open days.

You don't need to visit 12 unis. Most people do 3 or 4.

Oh. There are so many options how do I choose

Technically not an engineer yet but in y13 and hold an AAA offer from Sheffield. I would recommend it due to the £81 million diamond building with great facilities. As said before open days are a great way to get a feel before filling in your application. Other universities I applied to were UCL and Leeds which also offered AAA.

I'm gonna do aerospace engineering at Bristol. masters with a year in industry. I'll need to get AAB.

if you wanna do engineering, try and get some work experience to get an idea of what field of engineering you favour most.

For types of Engineering see if your school has any trips to universities which explain the difference between the different branches of Engineering. University websites can also give some useful information. You tube has some great videos by Engineering students and recent graduates considering which branch of Engineering may suit your interests and talents the most.
