Where can I do an EPQ in Northern Ireland?

Hey, so I’m a year 12 student in NI (year 11 English equivalent) and next year during my AS year I want to do an EPQ to boost my uni prospects and demonstrate an interest in my subject (English). As far as I’m aware the Northern Irish exam board (CCEA) don’t offer EPQs and I have no idea where to do one. Does anyone knows where I can do one or if I have to teach myself ? Thank you )

No universities require you to have an EPQ. Reading around your subject is sufficient to demonstrate your curiosity and interest.

You can also enter essay competitions.

I’d never considered this, thank you! Would an EPQ make me stand out at all for competitive universities (eg. Oxbridge) or would essay competitions and showing interest in other ways suffice?

An EPQ won't make you "stand out", no. Especially when many applicants are doing it these days. It's not a case of standing out... it's all about demonstrating your interest in your subject. So just do things that interest *you*, not things you think will "impress" the admissions teams.

If you want to write some essays, doing the competitions can be a good idea. Note, it doesn't matter if you win or not - you are doing them because you're interested, not because it's a competition.
