Not living at uni- can i still attend freshers week?

I'm starting a psychology course at Durham uni in October and was unable to attend any post offer open days and have a few questions:
Can i still attend freshers week despite not living at the university/ what can I do there?
When should I order a gown for the matriculation ceremony?
