My 2 ways was gender role socialisation and peer pressure.

Gender role socialisation: boys and girls have different activities, toys and clothes. E.g wc girls may engage in cooking, cleaning instead of pursuing a career and being independent. So they go on to choose health and social care.

Peer pressure: wc habitus clashes with schools mc habitus. So they seek other ways of gaining status like adopting a hyper heterosexual feminine identity. This means they more likely to be interested in fashion. So may choose art or fashion etc

Talk about the lack of Ethnic minority teachers as they’re typically working class so they turn to the media for role models which portrays an anti school subculture so they don’t chose subjects they’re good at but subjects they think will be easy.

Then I talked about working class boys being stereotyped into disruptive so due to teacher labels and ‘teacher/subject counselling’ they’re turned away by some subjects which limits their choice

Ok that just worried me so much you have not idea. I talked about PEER PRESSURE that in single sex schools girls are more likely to pick subjects that boys usually take e.g sports they don’t have to follow a stereotype because there is no boys to tell them they are picking a boys subject.

My second point was about Bernstein and speech patterns. The working class use the restricted code. They are unlikely to pick subjects like English at college as there language is inadequate. Instead they’ll favour towards subjects like maths that don’t require the use of language as much.

You will get marks dw, might drop a few tho. At least your second point went really well, so you’ll pull up your marks. Don’t stress! You’ll ace it!
