No going to lie, you do miss out. I should know, ive been there done that. But so long as you make an effort, and make friends with good people, its alright. Considering where you live, theres student accommodations in that area so it would be a big waste of money if you moved out if I were you.

Congratulations on gaining a place at John Moores Uni!

As a student myself, I have many friends who have travelled from Wigan, the Wirral and the outskirts of Liverpool and they have made friends easily. Often transport runs late into the night and sometimes friends will offer to let you stay.

However, not living in halls means you do miss out on living with hunders, sometimes thousands of other students. Halls are also beginning to become more integrated in the social aspect by hosting events in order for people to meeting each other, which is great for those who may be shy. It also gives you an oppurtunity to meet people on different courses who may share different interests to you and this can often be a way into discovering new things about yourself. It's also worth mentioning that living in the city centre means a better access to library services, which can be important if you need a book last minute!

If you do decide to stay at home, then I suggest joining socieites that interest you and really getting yourself involved in the freshers activites both in University and the city itself as this is the period when people tend to make friends.

Hi hun,

There is a fresher fair at the start of the academic year where you can find out about all of the clubs and societies. You generally can attend everything twice before you have to decide to join and pay. If you go on the SU website, all of them are listed there but some of the information is pretty outdated so if I were you, youre best just waiting till the fresher fair. Most if not all of the clubs and societies do have facebook pages you can join though.

I can totally understand your dilemma Janet as I felt the same last year! I lived close enough to University to stay at home but didn't want to miss out on Uni life & socialising! I ended up moving into a student accommodation shared flat called X1 The Edge & shared a group flat of 6 other girls! I'm so happy that I decided to move here, I asked the lettings agent to put me into a flat with people in my year at Uni which they did & I've had a great experience! The accommodation was sociable as well as X1 Lettings actually host social events in X1 The Edge every couple of months which allows you to meet new people in the building!

If you haven't made your mind up yet, I would definitely recommend looking at X1 The Edge I'm so glad I did! And it's located on Seymour Street so only short walk to Unis and basically next door to Lime Street!

Breee is pretty on the ball with this one. There's a freshers fair that happens near the start of every semester! Go along, get lot's of freebies and sign up to as many societies as your free time can afford! I personally signed up to Dodgeball society first year, and pole fitness second year. I'm a guy, and it started as a joke, but i made friends and it was different!

Halls aren't the beginning and end of friendships. Many people i know didn't get on with their hall mates, hardly saw them, or they just weren't compatible. The friends I have now I actually met through other means and just university life in general. You'll make and lose friends all the time at university! But that's not a bad thing. Just be yourself, smile and focus on what matters to you!

i would definitely recommend adding Liverpool Student Nights on snapchat as they provide information about whats on throughout the year and you can get on guestlist which will save you so much money on nights out!!!
