Can I teach myself sociology year 1 content over the summer?

hello
I'm posting on behalf of my brother.
Im currently studying history, spanish and chemistry. i got results a few days ago and i did alright in maths and chemistry but not spanish as our school made us do external real AS exams due to lack of resources to make a paper with the new content of the new exams. I got an A in chemistry and B in history and im quite disappointed. I want to do law and wanted to go to bristol, durham, cambridge, LSE. they all are competitive and need min A*AA so i wanted A*A*A. i go to a comprehensive school in a small town and they dont like giving out two A* predictions as it is and im not sure i can get these predictions as history is low.

my school adds two to our grades like a lot of others. if i manage to get an A in spanish which i doubt i will given that it was bad ill be predicted A*AA.

the issue is, i hate history. to be candid, i did it because of pressure from friends and teachers who said even though law has no preferred subjects i would be stupid to not do history and i did quite like it at GCSE. i want to drop it and pick up sociology. apparently its piss easy, ive looked at the content and exams, spoken to my friends doing it and my step sister does it and she barely counts it as a subject.

i dont think my head of sixth form would let me even try. what do i do?

just to say, i'm an alright student. i got 7A*s and 3As in GCSEs with 3 taken early (french, spanish, german).

Imo that's easily done. People have self taught as level maths and even a level maths before sixth form started so I assume it isn't even that hard as long as you actually learn and don't mess about

im willing to. i wanna apply to lse and cambridge for law and i want A*A*A predictions which i know i can get. my sixth form is harsh with predictions especially with A*s, and idk how to show them i can teach myself this.
