Hey man, look - A levels only mean so much. AND, if you work hard enough, network ruthlessly (without being annoying), then you’ll land something.

Anyway, jobs in back/middle office are very good, and you’ll still be paid better than 90% of others who aren’t in finance. Let’s say risk, or a specialised product in operations you earn the same as an analyst in FO as you do in BO/MO. Good luck!

Haha, they’re not. If anything they’re almost on a similar par to FO roles.
Frankly, if your dream is to argue over the best font to use in the powerpoint presentation your boss is going to slap his name on without giving you any credit, while working 80+ hours a week (without overtime pay), with a net outcome of you actively damaging thousands of other peoples lives, including your own...then you need to get a better dream.

Investment banking isn't a dream, your dream is to be rich. Don't pretend otherwise. Then if you spent half a second critically evaluating this, and realising that you can live more than comfortably almost anywhere in the UK without that "dream", you could actually be able to pursue something you might like doing...

Each to their own, investment banking is many people’s dream - analysts are known to get “beasted” that’s how it works. It’s a very stimulating job, and your work does pay off!

You're right, OP does probably want to be rich, but theres lots of reasons why IB is interesting and a worthwhile career

Not everyone's a p***y, some people can hack the timing. And there's no lives damaged by, as you said, making ppt presentations.

Focusing on one aspect of IB, which is making powerpoints to most likely attract clients, when there's lots of interesting things like modelling and valuation which is the bread and butter of lots of more interesting buy side roles, is silly

Exactly, theres not many non STEM related jobs that are as mentally stimulating and satisfying as IB

You have clearly done zero investigation into said STEM related jobs then.

above? I am first year kings college london btw. Is there any job in finance that I can apply to?

Hi,

I saw that you posted this around 2 years ago and to be completely honest, bcos of Covid 19 I've got really poor Alevel results. I was wondering if you could tell me how successful you were at getting into IB as that's something I'm very keen on aswell.
