My mother wants to put camera in my room when I move to halls

I'm an international student, and I have very strict parents.

This October I'll start an undergraduate course in London, and my mother wants to put a camera in my room at halls, and I certainly do not like this idea.

Could anyone give me any proofs whether it is illegal or not, so I could know if I can comehow persuade my mother not to do this.

I will live in Southside halls, if that matters.

If she puts a camera in your room, couldn't you just take it down?

Don't tell me she's hiding it inside a bear or something lmfao

Let her install it, then when she leaves “accidentally” break the camera. Just say you were drunk or something
loooooool, mad.

Mate youre going to uni, you need to tell her just tell her no. She cant stop you from going to uni, and youre not a child anymore

If you do not consent to having it there then it is illegal I think. It is very strange anyway, you must refuse this!
Like the university would allow it.

LMAO,
If this is real it is ridiculous, your supposed to be an adult at Uni and making your own choices, tell her no. You require a level of trust and privacy and she needs to learn what is appropriate.

"It is illegal to set up a hidden camera in any property or room where the individual would expect to have privacy"
"It is also illegal to hide a spy camera in someone else's home."
I am under 18, and in addition, she's just INCREDIBLY strict. She might come to UK, if I'd break the camera or turn it down, or refuse paying for uni, and for obvious reasons I'm not able to afford it myself yet.

Sure it's okay, loads of parents have cameras to keep on eye on their child- when they're babies! You are not a child, tell her no. If that fails, break it by 'accident'
erm no that’s a MASSIVE no

she cray cray.

Tell her the university don't allow it and they carry out room checkings to make sure you don't have anything illegal there.
Tell her putting a camera in your room is incredibly weird and unusual. Tell her you're going to Uni to get some independence and you want to learn to be an adult by yourself without someone literally watching over your shoulder.

You couldddd also first night of Uni play some porn sound effects off camera for a bit. I'm sure that'll put the point across that she wouldn't want to hear or see your uni activities.

Put vaseline over the lens. It'll make it blurry and if she ever comes to inspect it, you can wipe if off and blame her internet/computer.

Tell her it's against the uni contract. Or that it'll put you over your WiFi allowance if you're constantly streaming. You could also point out that you'd rather get dressed without her being able to see.
