Is A level maths suited for me?

I got an A* at GCSE (80%) and an A in AQA further maths (56%). I wouldn’t say I’m bad at maths but am nowhere near the kind of people who get A^ and 100% in their maths exams.

I also find maths in itself to be very stressful and hard to revise. Should I take it for A level - and could I achieve an A grade (not expecting an A*) or should I take history, which I’m better at, instead? Aiming to do land economy at uni.

Depends on what you want to do afterwards; A-level maths is okay to-do even for an average student (B or C grade), you can get an A regardless of your GCSEs.

I, personally, am doing both history and maths at A-level and find A-level maths to be much harder than history, even though it is also a difficult subject. Like you, I got an A* in maths at GCSE but unfortunately I only managed to get a D at AS. If you prefer history, it might be a better option for you but my advice would be to pick the subject you like more and not what you think you can do better in because it is difficult to predict. Take maths, especially if you are looking around degrees like land economy where u near always will need a level maths. You could take history if you want, but I easily got an A* at GCSE and the jump at a level is of no comparison, it is very difficult and I found it harder than maths so don’t expect it to be an easier choice. Obviously, it is all subjective though. You could take both :smile:

Trust me you're fine. There are people in my year that did A-Level Maths with grade 7's (A) at GCSE and they ended up with A grades at AS where an A is the highest grade you can achieve. It's about how much work you're willing to put in at A-Level.

definately - if you put in the an average amount of work you should be able to excel and also consider further maths. I got an A* in maths (wasn't good enough for further maths GCSE) and I got an A* in A-Level too - At first I you might struggle but with enough work it will become easy eventually(this is for maths or further maths)

Hi! I'm planning to do Maths A Level when scraped a 7 (A) in gcse , personally I was in the class with people doing foundation maths! Do you think i'll be able to do better in a level since teachers are more specialised?
