African parents

What are the worst things you’ve had to go through if your parents are african?

My parents are african, christen and rather strict so I was wondering if anyone else goes through the same things I go like not being able to stay out late.

My mum would beat my ass if I didn’t make it home at 4 from school. Forget about going out.

My mum is pretty chill but my dad is a complete *******. He’d send me back to Africa if I can home late

I’m 17 but I can completely relate
You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your parents - unfortunately for some.

It’s just annoying because I miss out on so many parties and days out which means I can’t socialise with all my friends.

That’s the opposite of my parents. My mum is chill but if u managed to piss her off, her thinking are inhibited and no reasoning can calm her down.

Different cultures/nationalities/religions have different ways of rearing children. Trust is a thing and should be exercised by a reasonable parent in order to build and maintain a bond.
This way, children will return to the family home. If not, they lose them.

I don’t feel like I have a close bond to my parents due to the fact that they’re strict and I can’t live my life without being told this and that. My teenage years are nearly over and I haven’t done nothing a normal teenager would do. They’re very sexist which makes things worse. My friends are living their best lives and I’m doing chores 24/7.

Will you eventually be in a position to live independently?

Yup. I can related, as i have African parents who are so backwards. So i know the troubles. Worst thing is, i'm gay too, and they did end up finding out, so i'm sure you can imagine how that went about...

- I don't live with them anymore for those reasons, but one of the funniest thing i remember is the contants threats, of 'being sent back to AFRICA' :colonhash:

African parents are the most backwards people over ever met😂 I get told I’m going back to Africa at least 4 times a day😭. I’ve recently realised that I’m bisexual and I don’t plan on telling my parents due to the fact that they are christians

Haha, i wouldn't recommend that - wait until you're independent, out of their lives. but lool, i was given the ultimatum of "change now, or you are going back to africa" I was like Nah, I'm leaving.

No. I’ve only went out about 5 times and came back at 11. She’s seems to not care about curfew but what time I come back home from school.
