Hi :smile: I'm posting this now in the hope that I can meet other applicants in the future
I've applied for Business Management and Business Management with Finance at Huddersfield as I can't make my mind up on which course content I prefer the most
I've been to an open day and I loved it, it's my favourite university that I've applied to, and if I get offered a place then I will need to move into student accommodation as I'm far from local (I'm from Northamptonshire)

Hi,
Just been to one of your open days today and I absolutely loved it! Loved the campus, course and accommodation!
The only thing that’s worrying me is the actual student life? What’s it like in town? Bars/clubs?
At the moment it’s at the top of my list for Unis however I’m just worried that maybe going to uni in a bigger city such as Nottingham or Birmingham it may give me a better ‘student experience’
Also if anyone is studying criminology I would love to hear from you about the course ! :smile:

That's great to hear that you came to our Open Day on Wednesday and we're very happy to hear that you love Huddersfield :smile::smile::smile:

We'll ask one of our students to get in touch with you to answer your questions about student life . We'll also try and get hold of a Criminology student to tell you more about the course!

In the mean time, to reassure you, there are nearly 20,000 students in Huddersfield, which for a town this size is a significant number. What this means is that there are loads of options for nights out and for a healthy social life! There are lots of bars and clubs in town and many run student nights with special student deals etc. It's a very student-friendly and student-orientated town. Camel Club seems especially popular with students, but we'll let an actual student tell you about that! You may have also noticed at our Open Day that town is literally across the road from campus, so you don't have to venture far at all to go out. Also, for a change of scenery from time to time, you might want a night out in Leeds (just 30 mins by train) or Manchester (around 45 mins), so not far at all.

I'm Abbi and I'm the University of Huddersfield Student Rep here on TSR - so I just thought I'd introduce myself! So glad to hear you enjoyed the open day - Hudds is such a lovely town! So student life - I work on the English Lit stand for open days and when people ask about the uni and the town, I describe it as a springboard. It has everything you need to get started: a theatre, cinema, plenty of shops and restaurants, cheap pubs and nice pubs and lpenty of clubs with, of course, the famous Camel Club! Hudds has everything you need to get started as a student and get used to independant life - and it's cheap! Because it's a town and not a city, you aren't stuck paying crazy prices - and everything is so close! I really cannot oversell Hudds as a place to get going - the student life here is vibing and we have something for everyone, a great local open mic scene, good beer, incredible pizza (check out Bar Maroc) and a great night life. It's a great place to be a student!

Hi Molly, The student life is what you make of it, there aren't many clubs there's about 5 (Camel, Revolutions, Tokyo, Five are the main ones people talk about/ go to.. but there is a couple of Wetherspoons here which are REALLY popular for obvious reasons.... most notably cheap drinks haha) but the students here really do make the most of it... so if you ever go on a student night out you aren't gonna be disappointed about it being a busy/ bustling night out. But yeah, I personally love Huddersfield because it's not too small but it also isn't a larger place like Sheffield.Currently in my 2nd year of the course and can't express how much I love it, if you're looking into doing something to do with the criminal justice system, law enforcement etc then it's fab... as you'll have noticed in the course talk there's so many different things you can do (study abroad for example), the placement is sweet as you organise it yourself and can get a taste of whatever career you want to go into, the module choices are really good as you can do whatever you want...... not to mention the fact that the staff come from all sorts of backgrounds, on top of that all the lectures are given by staff that specialise in that area (e.g. if you have a lecture on policing it's taught by Mark as that's his area, organised crime is Dainis's area and so on) so trust me when i say that the course is highly practical and whatever you're taught is what they think is useful... and not something like a GCSE where you basically regurgitate information you're taught, it's more realistic and practical in what information/ knowledge you're given.Another great thing is the range of assessments, it's not all exams... in my first year (which i recently finished... currently only like 2 months into my second year) we only had 1 exam..... and we saw all the questions like 2 weeks before the actual date we were meant to do the exam, which is sweet as it eases you into uni without piling lots of pressure on your by making you revise loads of stuff; also the opportunities to do outside of the course are AMAZING, i take part in the Centre for Academic Debate and definitely think it's worth joining as it looks great on your CV and is something cool to do on the side of your degree, not sure if they mentioned it in the course talk but there was also a trip to Latvia that was done in the summer, i was on that and it was insane as i never imagined doing something like that during the summer... especially when we went on TV over there.Another cool thing i'd recommend to do (to spice up your CV) is UOTC, if you google that or look it up on the army website it's sweet, pretty much a society run by the army where you do army training, learn different skills like leadership, teamwork, people skills and all that good stuff and GET PAID BY THE ARMY TO DO IT.... it runs completely around your degree and you can do as much or as little as you want... and it doesn't run when exams are on so you can focus on your studies.... i think its pretty awesome by the looks of it.But yeah, highly recommend the uni and the course.... if you're excited by the stuff i've mentioned above then imagine the possibilities if you came to the uni and studied criminology :smile:.Hope i've helped and made you even more excited about the uni.... there's lots more stuff i could mention but i dont wanna give you an essay haha.Oliver Daniels

I got sent a package at the weekend that featured several texts and a letter informing me of a informal interview on the applicant day.
What should I expect from the one to one interview and is there anything I should doing to prepare for the day?

Apologies for the delay in coming back to you.
Well done for getting an interview! I have spoken to one of our current students who should be able to offer her insight into some of the things you could prepare. Remember an interview is a chance for you to ask us questions too! And a chance to get to know the staff better. It's quite informal, the interviewer is looking to find out about you, and why you would like to study the course you have applied to. Think about what you would like to achieve in the future, and what you love about the subject, including the books you have enjoyed reading or studying.

It’s great to hear that you want to apply to the University of Huddersfield.

My name is Chloe Baxter. I am currently in my Final year of Contemporary Art and Illustration. I have loved every moment of being on this course, I honestly wouldn’t change it for the world!

When I first visited the university campus I too loved the homely feeling of it and I still do now. All staff members are eager to help you with anything and make your university experience the best it can be. If you do decide to study in Huddersfield, I would recommend getting on good terms with Ryan, our workshop technician. He is amazing and can help you with absolutely anything!!

This course provided by The University of Huddersfield is so unique and unlike other courses. You have the freedom to explore all kinds of art in your practice and never feel restricted to doing just one thing. This was perfect for me as I always want to do everything ha ha! Another brilliant thing about studying Contemporary Art and Illustration is that we all get a studio space. This is brilliant for experimenting and trying out new ways of working. I would suggest making the most of this space and using it to its full potential! I am going to miss it soo much when I graduate.

Hi Molly, I am hoping to study Criminology too next year, just waiting on an offer, had two other unis offer but Huddersfield is my first choice! I am from Leeds but live in Huddersfield, to be fair Huddersfield Town centre is ok, there's plenty of bars and a few ok nightclubs, but with the train station right in the centre you can just hop on the train to Leeds in 20 mins if you want a more varied night out! Louise
