I know this is a really hard question to answer, and I totally understand if you won’t be able to answer it, but I thought it’s worth mentioning anyway.
I am hoping to apply for Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Mental Health. My predicted grades are A*AB and I meet the GCSE requirements.

However, I failed my Maths GCSE first time around, but passed it 3 months later. On the requirements, it says royal Holloway accept a 4 in maths, but I was wondering you think I will be at a disadvantage given the fact that I didn’t get my maths first time round.
There is a lot of statistics required in psychology, and though I have now passed it, do you think they will see my previous fail mark, assume I am bad at maths and prioritise other applicants over me?

Hi! Wow, this is all so helpful! Oxford don’t know what they’re missing- one of my friends just got rejected a few days ago, but I bet Royal Holloway has made that all a distant memory! Congrats on your unconditional, that’s amazing! The reason I doubt VERY much that I’ll get an unconditional is because I’m actually predicted a B in psych and my A and A* are in two of my other subjects. My maths is also only a 4, (I failed it first time round ☹️) and I know I could have done better in my GCSE’s- out of all 9 of them I only got 4 A’s. I’m reallllly not sure about my personal statement to be honest with you. I tried to display a lot of knowledge about the different therapies involved in psychology (drug therapy, CBT and REBT,) but I’m still really nervous about it. It’s so amazing to talk to someone who is actually studying there, I feel less panicked now. Moving away from home is my biggest worry. I’m currently looking at Willamson, Tuke and Butler for my accommodation, (if I did get an offer,) although I haven’t actually visited the uni yet. My college are being painfully slow in sending off my application- it’s still sitting in cyber space at the moment. I’ve heard the waiting time is about 10 working days, but I’m so worried I won’t get an offer. I specifically want to take Psychology, Clinical Psychology and mental health. I’m also really relieved they don’t interview, because I know I would mess it up- when I’m shy I can’t formulate my sentences lol. I was wondering what your experience of freshers week was like there? Also, what do people do on weekends? I don’t really understand how many lessons you have a week. Do you get an option to have single gender in all of the rooms?

The thought of moving away is just something that’s really stressing me out. I’m not exactly close to the university, which means I couldn’t be go home all the time. I’m just really worrying about the whole thing, I’m such a home bird and I can’t do anything for myself 😂

Hi Katie, first of all well done on your predicted grades, those are amazing! I actually sent my application early as I was also applying to Oxford (who rejected me lmao), so I got a response pretty soon - I think it was around late October maybe early November, so don’t worry if you haven’t got a response yet. About the stats, I was also wary of this as maths has never been my strong point to say the very least, but so far the course has had very little in the way of stats, the maths we’re doing is very basic and nothing to worry about, and they’re easing us into it really well. Like I said, your predicated grades are very good so I’d be surprised if you didn’t get an offer, and with a strong personal statement you might even get an unconditional. I got an unconditional offer, I think it was mostly to do with my personal statement because I’d done some experience at KCL and I spent a very long time perfecting what I wrote so they probably liked that. I totally understand the shyness part, I’m a painfully shy and awkward person but I’ve surprised myself so much in that I’ve actually opened up a lot and become more sociable since moving to uni, the thought of meeting someone for lunch no longer terrifies me! Moving away from home is a big step, especially if you live far away (luckily I’m only a 40 min drive away), but by bringing lots of things from my room with me I very quickly made my uni room feel like home. If you’re worried about socialising or making friends, I would strongly recommend starting your own online chat group - that’s how I met all my current friends at rhul. I made a post here on TSR saying that I was a very shy person and that I didn’t like partying or drinking and over time I got more and more responses from similar people. I made an Instagram group for us to chat on, and now we’re all close friends in real life! Of course you might want to wait for your offers to come in before you do this!Let me know if you have any more questions
