is City University of london, the best law school to practice corporate law in the UK

It's overall ranking is not the best, but specifically for corporate law (from what I have heard from companies and firms) they are the best in the country, and firms are more fond of it, even more so than Oxford and Cambridge, though this is specifically for corporate law. This is not my opinion so correct me if I'm wrong, it's just the many peaple I have asked, say the same thing, Why is this?

City is good for commercial law. Its being in the City means it can attract top professors and lecturers. An LLM from there in commercial law is alright. The LPC from there is alright, too, for the same reason.

For the LLB, though, you are not going to be doing much commercial law. You might do 2/3 modules at best. City's contract, criminal, equity, property, constitutional/admin academics determine the quality of the course. They are about average.

So no it is not preferred.

I am currently first year law student at City University, they have changed the course structure than previous years, they now allow you to specialise in commercial law (which is the same as corporate law) in both years 2 and 3, only year one do you do contract, tort, criminal.

I'm sure it's decent, but to say it comes anywhere close to oxbridge is utter nonsense. Not even close.

Okay, what firms have you been talking to? 'The best in the country'? Firstly, I doubt any commercial firm rep will definitively outline the 'best' university due to the negative PR - students from other universities will undoutably be discouraged from applying as a result. Secondly, I can link you these statistics depicting represented universities in corporate firms 'https://www.chambersstudent.co.uk/where-to-start/newsletter/law-firms-preferred-universities'. City University isn't even represented. Finally, 'more fond' of City 'even more so than Oxford and Cambdidge'; did anyone of note explicitly or implicitly suggest this or is this simply your interpretation? Oxbridge are over-represented in commercial firms, to suggest City University is more prefered is unheard of.

For academia and any other type of law, oxbridge is light years ahead of city, but city is better than Oxford for corporate and commercial law, all there subjects are basically tailered towards the banking, corporate finance world, the cass business school being an example, which relates greatly to the law school, it's a specialised institution for business and the professions. And plus its location for the corporate world cannot compare to oxbridge's medieval location, which is mostly tailered towards the academic philosophical approach to the law rather than hands on work.
Now I remember who you are, I am not going to waste any of my time on you.

You don't listen and don't have the ability to listen.

OP seems like they're trying to justify the fact they go to City :confused: and not engaging in any of the points from other users properly

I wonder what the point of this thread is...

His old posts were a lot worse. One of the few times I thought Doones was about to lose his mind. OP was originally guaranteed a place at Cambridge and Durham, with no GCSEs, as I recall, and wouldn't listen to anyone who said anything against it.

The OP is a classic status-affirmation character. Normally leaves you after a couple months of uni, but see it hasn't worked.

Well I'm not gonna waste my time with you, and hopefully neither is anybody else whom contradicts you on here.

I remembered who it is as well.
Tell-tale sign when you realise its not a genuine question and they start arguing with you.
If only all threads were so easy to back out of.

Thank you very much, and thanks for informing me. I knew it anyway, not in that much detail. But this is the Internet, nobody really worries about spelling and grammatical mistakes, oh except probably snobby kids on TSR that have nothing better to do with their lives.

Pot. Kettle...

Except I'm not a kid. Spot on about not having much else to do at 12am, though.

Haha, I always love the people obviously going out of their way to sound clever then complaining about it only being the Internet. You just stuck a whom into a random sentence to try to make this "not the Internet".

Yeah, 'only the internet' when they look silly, but not when they try to make someone else look silly.

These utter meffs always follow it with the most mundane, lazy non-sequiter, too. In this case some tripe about having no life. Yes, because pulling up a wannabe smart arse at midnight is indicative of ... **** all. Derp derp derp.

Who are these people? I suspect they have some kind of affiliation to the university.

City is underrated (in my opinion) but people do not rate it like you suggest.

There mostly commercial solicitors themselves, from my research and my opinion, it's only one of the best or arguably the best for corporate finance and business. All of the subjects they offer are basically tailored towards that. It's good for anything else, but specifically for the corporate world I hear its the best in London.
