1 in 4 young women with mental health problems

Women in the age range of 17 to 19 have the worst of it, what is causing it all?

Men have it so much harder.
social media, hardcore pornography, binge watching netflix, pointless smartphone use, excessive video/mobile games, eating junk food etc all while not doing any productive at all, or excercising or socialising irl than electronic based. obv no one will ever admit any of that
Pressure on being a certain way and if you don’t agree with that you’re different and weird
Did I read correctly that these people report it themselves to the survey rather than getting numbers from medical sources.

If I did understand correctly then I highly doubt the 1 in 4 figure

Edit: seems I read wrong. 1 in 4 is actually stupidly high

Social media, pornography, sexual hedonism, materialism, lack of self-discipline, smartphone use and degenerate-ness.

Pornography, really?
social media
the media in general
school
expectations
stress
money
don't want to talk about trauma/whatever happens behind closed doors

everyone keeps saying smartphones but its like
the internet is so addictive. look around you. EVERYONE is on their phones all the time. homework and revision resources are online too so it's not easy to switch the world off.

pornography is easier to avoid imo as i've never seen porn.
but people with problems and addictions just need to talk about it more. it starts off minor and instead of trying to cover up the problem people need to acknowledge it. it's okay to ask for help. it's not a cowardly thing to do.

people need to be nicer. decent human beings who treat each other with respect.
there's a lack of community i suppose. so many socially isolated people that resent themselves and fall into this negative, hopeless bubble.

there needs to be a balance. parents shouldn't be overly protective but they shouldn't neglect the needs of their children. similarly kids need to stop being so disrespectful and stop having an 'it's all or nothing' mentality. there is room for improvement. you don't have to be a perfectionist.
teens want to fit in so badly and have that validation but also like being unique and edgy. it's frustrating for everyone.

healthy eating and self love is so important. people need to be more active and find good coping mechanisms. avoid toxic lifestyles and follow what makes them happy. strive for success but realise there are opportunities. avoid escapism so follow responsibilities. people should try and make better choices not get caught up with trends.

it's so sad that mental illness is so common yet so trivalised. life does feel so hopeless and futile. there are so many reasons not limited to the ones mentioned because it's so complex.
who knows could be anything

social media and society pressures
sh*tty upbringing
bullying
maybe it runs in the family

think this we see that social media is bad for mh cos its ppl seemingly having a great life but we are told its an unrealistic representation. just like porn unrealistic bodies doing unrealistic things

porn is the new tobacco. at first people thought tobacco was healthy and was recommended by doctors. but as research on the effects grew it was difficult to deny what was going on. same with porn oh its fine perhaps healthy they say. its not it really isnt its incredibly destructive and real scientific evidence is growing proving it how bad it is for mh, addiction, effects on relationships all that kinda chit. but its not just about the negatives for the end user but for all parts of the supply chain. we know about what goes on in the porn industry. but we seem to forget this when we type in our favourite tube site. and by doing so we are just adding fuel to the fire

but no one is man enough to admit it as we have been brainwashed by the liberal sex positive wan.kers

the standard chit ppl always respond is oh porn has been around forever yes but high speed internet porn - HD, VR, 3D with infinite amounts of content that doesnt compare to anything before. and the dopamine thing yes other things produce it but not on the scale of porn. porn is not addictive yes it is scientific evidence shows this. doesnt matter about evidence this or that. ppl think its not addictive because they've never tried to quit. getting over porn addiction is still a 3.5 year struggle foe me quitting has been more difficult than getting my degree

Medicalisation of normal, everyday human emotions is what's causing this. You're not depressed because your boyfriend left you or because you got a C, sack up.

What scientific evidence exists which shows that pornography is bad for mental health?

Pornography use and pronography addiction are two different things.

Also, you don't have to spell **** as "chit" and ******s as wan.kers. We're (mostly) grown ups here.

If you've ever had to use mental health services you'll know that nobody gets diagnosed as depressed because they're 'just sad', let alone be prescribed medicine for that. Stop virtue signalling you ignorant fool.
Real men don’t have these problems.

also the ones who try to deny the negative effects on porn tend to be the ones the most addicted

If you've read this supposedly scientific reasearch yourself then you should be able to provide it. It's not my job to look for evidence for your own claims.

You're on a degree yet you can't search for things because of a K9 blocker? Do you not live away from your family, or something?
Genetics is definitely up there with the causes.

Not needed because I was being stupid. Probably shouldn’t even be joking about. Young men and women’s mental health issues. Shamefully walking away now.
