Why do plants store energy as carbohydrates and not as fats?

So my question is - why would plants store their energy as carbohydrates and not as fats, if fats are a more efficient energy store?

As far as I know they use carbohydrates in form of glucose to support the photosynthesis and to gain energy in form of ATP. And they don't store glucose as fat, but as starch to catabolize it when it is really needed (starch as polysaccharide consists of many glucose molecules).
