Met police officer could be charged for ramming moped

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-46440172

What do you think? Was the police officer justified in carrying out the "tactical contact"? Or should he have used a different tactic?
This is what happens when the police try to impress daily mail and express readers by acting tough and using excessive force bordering on police brutality. Here’s hoping that the officer is brought to justice.

So no consideration for his victims? Do you not think this is important to prevent further crimes often carried out on mopeds in London such as theft, stabbings and acid attacks?

I’d say the real shame is that the police didn’t kill him.

No because this is not a police state and not a corrupt third world country like Brazil where police do whatever they want. Here, the police have to minimise their use of force and are liable for any injuries they cause. We need to hold the police to account to ensure that they don’t ramp up their brutality in the future. If ramming mopeds is not challenged, then they’re going to go down a slippery slope ending with armed police roaming the streets shooting suspects before arresting them.
If the guy on the scooter wasn't trying to evade the police or the policeman didn't follow protocols then I'm all for prosecuting the police man. However, the new 'tactical ramming' technique is badly needed because moped riders wrecklessly fleeing from the police are a real danger to the public and moped crime was getting out of control! It has already reduced moped crime and made the public safer. Ironically, it will probably begin to reduce hospitalisations for the criminals as well because they'll stop thinking the police won't chase them if they take their helmet off and start riding dangerously

Exactly, they dindu nuffin to deserve such treatment.
Tactical contact vs moped criminal?

I'll side with tactical contact every time. Idiots wouldn't get rammed off their mopeds (or their stolen mopeds) if they weren't committing crime in the first place.

Frankly, I'd rather the police continue to use tactical contact to deter people. I'd even support them using more tactical contact against other vehicles as well, such as T-Boning cars they are chasing. These days, pursuits largely seem to revolve around chasing some loony until they screw up and/or decamp.

These sorts of articles are absolutely pointless. "Could be charged" - well, sure, I could be charged with shagging a horse tomorrow, doesn't mean I will be. Or, even if I was, that I'd be guilty.

Basically all the BBC are reporting on is that it is being investigated, which of course any incident where a police officer causes someone a serious injury should be.

Yes, and presumably if I continue to let my barber cut my hair, one day he'll lop my head off. Slippery slope, innit?

Making light of the struggles that headless people face every day is a ableist I expect a groveling apology from you forthwith. 🤚 😠
It is a dangerous path that the police have gone down, but the massive expansion of this type of crime by men and youths carrying knives hammers machetes and acid on scooters mean that the police are all but powerless to stop them.
From these evil POS point of view they have Struck MO Gold.
This is totally spiraling out of control and needs to be stomped out now.

Heres a question ........what is the practical alternative? What would you have the police do to combat it as as quickly as possible.?

Oh I know the answer to this one. Its education and more social funding to racial equality special interest groups, right?
Take the headlines with a pinch of salt. The units who are performing these techniques are highly trained specialist driver units.

The vast majority of cops would not give chase (they are not permitted to), let alone ram someone....

Cops can't just think 'oh I'll chase that guy'. Pursuits have to be permitted, and are dependent on a huge range of factors and circumstances in that particular situation.
