It is pretty victimless - Where is the Corpus delicti. Where is the joinder in this case . Where is the Natural Man or Woman - Which means flesh and blood, living, breathing, biological man or woman is harmed in this case. Where is the public interest. what does your last sentence actually mean?

The public interest is that a current MP has perjured herself. That's considered rather serious.
She's committed an act of perjury and as a result has been suspended from the party . The sunglasses were purely cosmetic and provided cover to hide behind . She will lose her job and the £75000 a year salary .
It's a very serious offence . Good riddance .
She should never have been selected in the first place .
honesty is always the best policy :h:
Govermnet always create some so called "Serious" offence which is used to threaten people. Dodging a speeding ticket is pretty vicitimless and do not affect you and me. I understand in current law it carries a possible life sentence. Honesty, it is a offence which create no joinder at all. In fact there are so many laws which is not important and to prosecute her or not do not possible affect anybody at all.
Having a convicted liar or criminal represent your constituency is something serious .
To suggest otherwise is simply totally wrong . A Solicitor too .! What a disgraceful waste of space .
A jail sentence awaits ....

Similar to the Lib Dem Chris Huhne.

Just accept the speeding ticket and you'll get a minor bit of bad publicity in the tabloids for one day. Or lie and destroy your career.

the lack of judgment is far more serious than the actual crime itself. if someone can make a complete ****-up over a speeding ticket think what they could do over something really important if they were in power

smh
Why is everyone acting like she murdered someone?, it's only a speeding ticket. We should talk about Tory police cuts and the increase in Knife crime, not this nonsense.

It's not a speeding ticket .

You don't go to prison for speeding tickets .

It's perjury .
why does that matter in the 21st century? its a bloody parking ticket, There have been other offences committed by many other MP's that are more important
Self-deluded liar. How stupid/naive do you need to be to knowingly falsify details replying to a NIP. She's a qualified solicitor (since 2015) and should clearly know the penalties for perverting the course of justice, let alone the numerous case histories of MPs who have acted similarly. Luckily for the electorate (especially in Peterborough) she's been found out within two years of office.

She was speeding quite significantly. However had she admitted it, apologised and paid the fine, she would have had maybe a couple of days bad press. It would all have been forgotten about pretty quickly. But she lied, and because she lied she will lose her job, she's been suspended from Labour and almost certainly won't contest the next election, and she faces prison. She's thrown away a good career as an mp, and probably her career as a solicitor too. She's lost everything for the want of a few points on her licence.

She even said it was someone who was in Russia at the time. How stupid can you get?

I don't think you quite understand Corpus delicti. It doesn't mean that there must be a physical, identifiable victim for a crime to have taken place, It simply means that a crime must be proven to have taken place before a person can be charged and convicted of commiting the crime. For example, if you accuse your neighbour of burning down your house, but there is no evidence of a fire ever taking place, then Corpus delicti has not been proven and your neighbour can't be charged with arson.

In this case, Corpus delicti was proven the minute she was caught speeding on camera and when it was disovered that she attempted to pervert the course of justice. And it's not a victimless crime (a crime where there is no potential for harm or loss to another person), she initially endangered other members of the public by breaking traffic laws, and then wasted valuable police and court time (and thus taxpayers money) concocting a bulls*** cover story.

No it isn't. She perjured herself over the altogether trivial speeding ticket and tried to dob her lodger in for it. She is a solicitor and an MP. If that is not serious then I don't know what is. She will get a small gaol sentence and should be sacked as an MP, as well as struck off as a practising solicitor.

The lack of judgement shown in turning a trivial matter into a serious crime is astounding.

You don't think the man she tried to pass the speeding conviction on to is a victim? That's great! Will you be willing to accept all my future driving convictions please?
according to her Twitter page she is still "Labour's MP for Peterborough"
