An Inspector Calls

I need to write 2 essay plans for ‘An Inspector Calls’ but I have no idea where to start. English is not my strong point and I need 5 quotations (during different points in the play) to complete it.
The questions are as followed:
‘Write about how the relationship between Sheila and Gerald is presented in ‘An Inspector Calls’.’
And:
‘Write about how the theme of responsibility is presented in ‘An Inspector Calls’.’
ANY quotes that could help would be very appreciated!!

I think one would be when there eating and Gerald gives her the ring and she reply’s ‘it’s the one you wanted me to have’ showing she didn’t have a choice of her engagement ring and that the relationship is very controlling on his part

Actually, this portrays Sheila as a stereotypical higher class woman who needs Gerald in order to become financially stable and therefore get a place in society (a patriarchal society) but also depicts Shiela as a materialist - She considers that ring more important than the actual engagement

thank you thank you thank you!!
For the Gerald and Sheila question I recall doing a similar question during my gcses, and I planned it based on the chronological development throughout the play. So how they act/interact/are presented in act 1, act 2 etc and how they develop and if they change.

Ahh yes!! I’m in year 10 so we haven’t fully been taught the structure of GCSE essays (hence my struggle) so that’s very helpful! Thank you )

Ye there is that. But also how in the time the play was set there was capitalist and socialist and how Sheila and her brother represented socialist and the other characters were capitalist. Also when she find me out he had an affair she contemplated the relationship but more of less forgave him as ‘everyone had affairs’ in that time. She is of a higher social class and so is he but I can see how them two being together would better her also

You are 50% right. She never decides to forgive Gerald for the affair with Eva. Right at the start of the play When Sheila ask where was Gerald last summer - "Yes - expect for all last summer", she already knows that Gerald had an affair or at least we can deduce that as she is described (be the stage directions) "half serious, half playful". Her mother justifies Gerald's affair by saying "You'll have to get used to that". Which implies the fact that she has been through the same situation with Mr Birling.

I'll leave a link (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mr+salles+sheila) to Mr Salle's videos if you need more info. If you need more let me know
p.s. Remember to include context (https://quizlet.com/gb/190179036/inspector-calls-quotes-and-context-flash-cards/) and the writer's purpose in every paragraph! (or at least in most of your paragraphs if you want to get to level 4+)That's really important! If you don't know how PM me or leave a post.
Last thing é_è you don't have to use long quotes, make sure that you use embedded quotation with 4 or 5 words.
