Take it step by step.

First you add 7. So what do you end up with after this first step?

I get 7x

That's not adding 7... that's multiplying by 7.

I’m not sure then, I thought x + 7 and x * 7 = the same thing

Definitely not.

Multiplication is repeated addition. 7x=x+x+x+x+x+x+xseven lots7x = \underbrace{x + x + x + x + x + x + x}_{\text{seven lots}}.

After you add 7 you end up with x+7x+7.

The next step is to take this number and multiply it by 5. What do you end up with?

So is it x + 35?

Nope. You forgot to multiply the xx by five as well. So it's 5(x+7)5(x+7).
