Hey!

I'm Will, a current student at QMUL. I'm here to answer your questions about Queen Mary! You can ask me about anything from our campus and research facilities to the London night life, part-time work and accommodation.

Don't forget that the UCAS deadline is on 15 Jan. Make sure you know how to apply by going to our website: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/undergraduate/apply/

Hey! Thanks for getting in touch.

It takes a while to adjust to the demands of a course and therefore I wouldn't recommend getting a job at university straight away. However, once you have got used to meeting deadlines and revising for exams, it is pretty easy to put aside time to earn money. I have never worked for more than about 10 hours a week so I don't feel that having a job has impacted negatively on my grades. However, everyone is different and you might find that you can work more or less, and still have plenty of time for work, socialising, sport or whatever you'd like to fill your time with!

Freshers fortnight has so much going on! There are loads of different nights at Drapers, the student union bar. There are also comedy nights, film nights and loads of other opportunities for socialising. There is a huge freshers' fair, where you can speak to people from hundreds of different sports clubs and societies. You can find out more on the QMSU website: https://www.qmsu.org/

Best wishes,
Will
Why is the Mason lecture theatre always ridiculously cold? 😛
What are the societies like? I've applied this year for med, but am super into music so I'm hoping that there'll be plenty for me to do there? Thanks!

I'm not really sure. Try estates & facilities: http://www.estates.qmul.ac.uk/

Hey, thanks for the question!

It's great to hear you want to pursue music whilst at Barts. Check out the QMSU Whitechapel based music society: https://www.qmsu.org/blmusic/

You would also be able to join any other Mile End or Whitechapel society of which there are over 100! We have a very active students' union!

Being in east London is also perfect if you want to see live music.

Best wishes,
Will

Sounds great - thank you so much!
How's the chemical engineering facility? Also, I wouldn't expect you to know this but would you know when the chemical engineering course would become accredited?
Hi,
I've applied to queen mary and as I am waiting for an offer I am considering accommodation. (undergrad)
I'm looking for nice accommodation, preferably with a good social scene etc. I heard France house is nice?

Could you give me some advice? Maybe summarise the top 3?

Thanks!
Hey! I’ve got an offer to study biomedical science and I want to put QM as my firm. Even though I live in North London I’m moving out because I don’t want an hour commute. When does the application for accommodation open?

Hey, thanks for the questions!

You can find a full outline of the facilities in the School of Engineering and Material Science here: https://www.sems.qmul.ac.uk/ugadmissions/facilities/#

I'm not sure about your accreditation question. Contact someone from the School and they'll be able to help you out: [email protected]

Hey! I'm afraid I don't have too much experience of all of the accommodation but they will all have a good social scene! You'll be sure to meet new people and have a great time wherever you live. I'm sure you have seen our website but you can find more info here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/study/accommodation/

Hi there,

Applications will open in March. More info here: http://www.residences.qmul.ac.uk/college/application/

If you didn't already know, we can now guarantee accommodation to all first year undergraduate students. You can read more about that here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/study/accommodation/first-year-undergraduate-accommodation-guarantee/

Yo, was the Queen Mary Reuse Fair only on for today? :frown:

Hi, I've got an offer for studying Maths with Accounting and Finance. My predicted grades are A*AA and my offer is ABB, with an A in mathematics. I have already acquired an A in another A level so technically my offer is AAB. I was wondering how lenient the university will be if I achieve grades lower. Also, what would you say is the best accommodation in the student village? Thank you

Hi there,

I'm afraid that was the only one planned. Keep an eye on the QMUL Sustainability Facebook page as they may organise another event. Hey! Thanks for getting in touch.

I recommend getting in touch with the admission department because they can give you a definitive answer. All their info can be found here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/contact/

I didn't stay in the village when I was in first year but I've heard it's great fun! I recommend chatting to a few current students on Unibuddy where you'll be able to get a bit more information.

Hi there, congratulations on your offer!

I believe Neuroscience is an allied course which means your course is taught jointly by Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, which means your teaching will be shared across the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses.

Best wishes,
Will
